This was a disappointing collection overall. It opened with "The Monkey's Paw", arguably the best piece in this volume. "Man-size in Marble" by E. Nesbit was rather good, as is Lovecraft's "The Music of Erich Zann". Stoker's "The Judge's House" held some promise, but ultimately fell flat in its ham-fisted delivery.Various of the stories in this collection seemed better suited to children than adults. It was a strange mix, admittedly. The illustrations were good, but not so good that I might reco...
This was an ok book. I enjoyed reading this and some of the stories gave me a little willy feel. Overall good, but not too spooky. Great for campfire kinda reading. Some of the stories didn't really have an end, some are pretty spooky, and some are more wistful or like a story then a chilling tale. Great for the family and something that's not too intense but gets the imagination (and shadows) working. Enjoy
I bought this book because I am a great fan of the illustrator, Barry Moser. What surprised me was the unusual stories that he had collected together, ones that I had never read. There was even one by Joyce Carol Oates. But, it is still his marvelous illustrations that are the joy of this book.
From paper to film:The Monkey's Paw
A great collection of ghost stories, with lots of classics! Many are spooky but not full on scary, so they may be appropriate for some kids. The art is incredibly good, and a nice addition
I found this at my public library, shelved in the juvenile section. I'd debate that designation; the stories in this book are so well-written (having come from famous authors) and suspenseful that this book might be more at home in adult fiction. Bram Stoker's story is still haunting me. This is a great anthology of ghost stories, from traditional tales to more modern versions.
This is a good collection of classic horror stories, however, I was more than a little disappointed by the fact that I had already read most of the stories before. If you are familiar with most classic horror authors, it's best to skip this book since it offers very little that isn't already available in other story collections.
What great fun! Barry Moser's illustrations add to stories. My review: http://bookinwithsunny.com/great-ghos...
This book had good stories in it, but some were not very suspenceful, and it's easy to read.
