After the successful launch of the XueXiao Banquet zine in 2020, we arenback with a new zine installment: the XueXiao Ocean of Stars zine. This zine is also a tribute to celebrate the release of Yi City arc in the donghua adaptation and Japanese audio drama adaptation which aired 2 months prior to the release of this zine.

This zine is named using the characters in Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen’s given names: Yang for “ocean” and Xing for “star”. With this name, we have chosen the theme “fairy tales” to reflect not only their arc being a short story which is part of the bigger tale Modaozushi, but also a tribute to the crucial scene of story-telling by Xiao Xingchen and Xue Yang in the novel. Despite having a small part to play, it has brought us all together forming a nation of fans and friends and will continue to expand with time. With this theme, we are able to tie it to the concept of “Royalty” as this is often a basic setting in fairytales. Our fanbase is often referred to as a “nation” and the “royalty” that rules over us would be the characters of our ship, King Xue Yang and King Xiao Xingchen. The fans would be the members of the XueXiao/XiaoXue nation. We would like to thank the zine team for their tremendous effort in organizing this project and putting together this collection of love. Even with our previous experience, new projects will bring forth new challenges and tackling them together has helped us to grow closer as friends and also as a team.
