Not a fast paced adventure book but a sweet story of three elderly lady friends coming together for fun road trip. I had enjoyed it.
Finished reading: November 6th 2021 "It shouldn't be overlooked, the power of sisterhood. We're strong by ourselves and stronger together." *** A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and Boldwood Books in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ***(view spoiler)[I knew that I wanted to read this story as soon as I first saw it. I love a good road trip story and I like having a focus on older main characters, so I thought The Golden Girls' Getaway was going to be a g
When neighbors Vivienne an actor in her 70’s, Gwen former opera singer in her 70’s and Mary a retired nurse in her 80’s decide to go on holiday when lockdown has lifted they choose to do it in style in a motor home called Venus. What adventures these three lovelies get up to will have you in stitches. Full of stories, secrets and amazing descriptive scenery this book is a delight from start to finish.
A good neighbour is better than a far friend Vivienne, Mary and Gwen are all living in the same building. They know each other, and visit each other once in a while. But lockdown has made them feel more and more isolated. So when Gwen has a plan that involves borrowing a motor home and to make a road trip, after the initial hesitation, the three women ‘of a certain age’ decide to take off. During their road trip through the British countryside, from Stonehenge to Dartmoor, Vivienne, Mary and Gwe...
Back to being stereotypes the public love. I think our days of any substantial roles to get our dentures into are well over.‘Is it an older woman you’re after?’ She lifted the hem of her skirt to show a soft round kneecap. ‘There’s always myself if you’re seeking a cougar– there’s life in this auld one yet. I’m eighty-one this autumn and I’d be up for a bit of gadding about in the camper van, especially if you throw in some pub meals and a few jars of ale…’‘I’d like a Buttery Nipple. Three, if y...
Three friends and neighbours, all in their twilight years, set out on a roadtrip in a borrowed motorhome. The whole time I was reading this book this gif kept going through my head... With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come. This book was such a hoot. Don't get me wrong we deal with a lot of issues in this story. Ageism, mental health, physical health and COVID to name but a few. But Judy Leigh manages to do it with warmth, sensitivity and a sense of humour. That’s the j
A good book with some laugh out loud moments - but long winded, too drawn out and such an abrupt ending.
Boring and slowThis storyline was dull, and lacked luster to draw me into it. There needed to be more excitement within their adventure
This was such a funny and uplifting book to read. It made me chuckle and put a smile on my face. I loved the antics of the three women and their decision to travel in a motor home and go a visit different places and campsites. A wonderful book. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

The Golden Girl's Getawayby: Judy LeighBoldwood Books What could be more fun than a girlfriends' road trip in a borrowed motor home, with stops throughout the beautiful United Kingdom. Author Judy Leigh takes us along for a scenic, joyous, and sometimes poignant ride with Vivienne, Mary, and Gwen. These neighbors were anxious to break away from their London flat and add some adventure to their golden years, after cautiously sheltering in place for a year due to Co-Vid. Each brought her own rich...
Thanks @BoldWoodBooks #NetGalley for a complimentary eARC of #TheGoldenGirlsGetaway by Judy Leigh upon my request. All opinions are my own.At the end of the Pandemic lockdown, three women borrow a motor home and escape their boredom and isolation by touring the British countryside. Vivienne (popular soap actor), Mary (retired nurse), and Gwen (retired opera singer) are all mature women in their 70s and 80s. Even though they live in the same building, they don’t know each other very well. Through...
As it has for so many of us – perhaps especially for those of us living alone and of a “certain age” – lockdown has been a difficult time for the three ladies who live at the flats at 104 Drayton Mews. Perhaps it hasn’t been quite as bad for Vivienne, who’s a bit of a national treasure in her role as a star in favourite soap The Edge of Edgeware, despite all the challenges of socially distanced filming. It might be Gwen who’s felt it the most – a former opera singer, she’s really struggled to fi...

After my recent diet of rather serious books, The Golden Girls’ Getaway was a welcome helping of light relief. A Devon cream tea after a bowl of beetroot soup, if you like. All three of the characters were a delight to become acquainted with: Vivienne, the stylish former soap-actress afraid she has been consigned to thespian obscurity; Gwen, the former opera singer who now only has an audience of one – herself; and Mary, who cooks up a mean curry and has an impressive and imaginative range of swe...
The story Two 70 year olds and an 80 year old live in apartments in one building in London. Vivienne is an actress in a long-running tv soap. Gwen is a retired opera singer and Mary was a nurse. Lockdown is over and life is returning to normal. The three golden girls decide to borrow their landlord’s camper van for a road trip to the South West of England, Wales ending in Whitby up north. Along the way they re-evaluate their lives, lay many demons to rest and find their confidence. My thoughts T...
This was such a fun read and it is so refreshing to read a book about characters who are at the more mature age in life. The Golden Girls feels very relatable especially with the pandemic restrictions of last year so the author Judy Leigh has incorporated this very real life event into a romcom. However, there’s no anxiety about the pandemic felt in the book as it looks at the social aspect of lockdown. The Golden Girls aka Vivienne, who is in her 70’s and is an actress, Gwen who is also in her 70...
4.5 StarsJudy Leigh’s books fizz and sparkle with humour, warmth, pathos and plenty of charm and her latest novel, The Golden Girls’ Getaway, is a delightful and dazzling read that proves that getting up to mischief has got no age limit. The last year has been difficult for everyone and Mary, Vivienne and Gwen are certainly no exception. Lockdown had left them feeling isolated and more alone than ever. The three of them are in desperate need of a change and when Gwen comes up with a terrific idea...
It's been a long and lonely year for neighbours Vivienne, Mary and Gwen. All ladies of a ‘certain age’, their lockdown experience has left them feeling isolated and alone. They have retired or lost their jobs and are feeling a bit expendable. Gwen comes up with a plan. She borrows a motor home from a gentleman who has feeling for her and made some unappreciated advances. Three friends head off on the road out of London, away from their worries and isolation. Vivienne (popular soap actor), Mary (...
