Eep, HFA is now up for request on Edelweiss! CWs for misogyny, homophobia, and a car accident death, as you can see from the blurb, and one more that I'll put under a spoiler tag because it is in fact a bit of a spoiler: (view spoiler)[abortion/miscarriage (hide spoiler)]. If you read, I hope you enjoy!
The age old love story of the high school quarterback and the cheerleader is given a wonderful twist in Home Field Advantage. Jack (Jaclyn) Walsh is recruited to move to Atherton, Florida to fill the void left by their star quarterback’s untimely death. Cheerleader Amber McCloud is driven by her desire to become captain of the cheer squad next year. She desperately needs this promotion to boost her college application so she can leave her small town to live her true queer life. Unfortunately, At...
I'm obsessed.
I was provided an ARC via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.Home Field Advantage is a YA sapphic romance between a cheerleader and a quarterback inspired by a picture you should know. And it was amazing. I loved both main characters despite one of them frustrating me at times and some of the side characters too. I loved the dynamics between the characters and the football element in the book. The plot was very crafted and I just went along with this great ride. Everything about this story...
An absolute delight. Funny, tender, and just all around badass.
I will…….…read a romance. 🫠
Thank you to Wednesday Books & Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.4.5/5 This one was so good!!Home Field Advantage is a dual POV YA contemporary about Amber McCloud, cheerleader who has eyes on the captain spot for senior year, and Jack Walsh, quarterback extraordinaire and oh yeah Jack is a girl. Jack is replacing Robbie who died in a car accident. The players were already stressed with this replacement, but to find out she's a girl has everyone rile...
This was absolutely adorable and really unique! This book covers topics like misogyny and homophobia while still being a really fun and easy read. I really enjoyed reading a common trope like a Cheerleader/Quarterback romance with a fun twist that it is a sapphic romance. I loved the dual POV of this book and thought that it was very well done and added an extra depth to both of the MCs. thank y0u to St. Martins publishing and Netgalley for providing me an e-ARC of this in exchange for an honest...
2.5ish starsI've been reading a lot of sports romance and this was quite enjoyable, if you've seen the movie dating amber, this book has a similar feel to it. the romance has a nice buildup, enjoyable enough. I also loved that amber had a bi mom, it's so nice to see older queer people and we actually use the word lesbian! Despite a lot of queerphobia from their teamates, there is a lot of joy too and I liked the bowling scene too and it actually feels like a romcomThere was this weird line where...
Home Field Advantage is a sweet, cute, and very easy-to-read sapphic young adult story, and I flew through the pages. At the same time, it covers harder-hitting topics such as misogyny and coming out. It’s the perfect premise, a cheerleader and a jock falling in love, except they’re two girls instead of the usual girl and boy. Amber is an overachieving cheerleader who wants to become the cheer captain at all costs. But does she want to betray Jack, the football-playing girl who is not accepted by...
“This is a goddamn pride parade, and I am proud as hell to be here.”Thank you to St. Martin’s Publishing and Netgalley for providing me an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.Home Field Advantage by Dahlia Adler is quite literally everything I look for in a book. Sports romance? Check. Sapphic? Check. That’s it. Those are my requirements. I’m easy to please. This book started off strong, and Adler hooked me with the fun, carefree writing style that I don’t often see in YA contempo...
*Many thanks to Wednesday Books and Goodreads for the advanced readers copy giveaway!*Normally, I leave the sports romance to folks who can appreciate all parts of the story, not just the kissing bits! But when I saw that the incomparable Dahlia Adler had written a queer ya romance featuring an in the closet aspiring head cheerleader who falls for for the new hot butch QB in a small southern town, I knew I would get out my pom poms and start caring about the big game! And holy moly, DA made me o...
