Five years ago: James MacReady’s hometown fell under siege when an ancient entity called the Groundskeeper returned to Earth to wage war against God. With Mac’s hometown turned to rubble and his family killed in the fallout, he was saved by a mysterious benefactor who gave him the book of the Watchmen—a now extinct order of warriors who once kept the world safe from monsters. Their book becomes Mac’s training manual for his new life in monster hunting. Vampires, demons, werewolves: anything that ever hid beneath a bed or lurked in a closet, Mac’s got the blueprint to kill it. The benefactor gave Mac only a single rule to follow—never use the ancient magical rites in the book.

With nothing but the book and a few weapons, Mac takes his Prius to America’s backroads to hunt the Groundskeeper and kill his supernatural army one monster at a time.

Now: Mac arrives in rural Pennsylvania to investigate a recent spree of murders where the victims are left drained of blood. His investigation brings him face-to-face with the ancient and powerful vampire Radovan. Outmatched by the vampire, Mac soon becomes the hunted.

As the small town’s body count rises, Mac is forced to turn to one of Radovan’s would-be victims—med-school student Ashley Quinn. Ash is no damsel-in-distress, and she’s ready to pay Radovan back for killing her family.

Together, they play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with the vampire, searching for a way to kill Radovan before becoming his next victims. But Mac knows that if he wants to survive this hunt and continue his search for the Groundskeeper, he may finally have to break the rule provided by his benefactor and turn to the forbidden pages of the book.

James MacReady, the last Watchman, will do whatever it takes to continue the hunt for the Groundskeeper.
