Best volume yet. I loved this. JSA continues to crush it and I feel like the story hit harder in this one too.
3.5 stars. This has been my favorite volume so far. After the events of the last volume, Sangster jr is in trouble. Seesaw tries to help but fails and feels like he needs more knowledge, more power. So he goes on a spiritual journey and speaks with all kinds of gods and deities. Pretty cool sequence there plus I like who he brought back. But they aren’t out of the woods yet as Abigail the Vampire Queen is still hell bent of killing or converting everyone in Philly and then the rest of the countr...
Individual mileage may vary with this title but I for one am glad that Barnes has the chance to continue his exploration (or is it explosion?) of American history by means of a way-over-the-top supernatural horror comic.I have a bit of distance from the subject matter as a Canadian (though this isn't meant to be smug, we have plenty of extremely problematic Foundational Figures here as well ) so I really get a kick out of seeing lionized historical figures like Thomas Jefferson go full villain (...
The art remains phenomenal, the story...not so much.
The best Vol in the series so far. Sangster Jr. gets bitten and Sangster Sr. and Seesaw need to find a way to bring him back. Seesaw goes to seek help from various gods and deities. Abigail is on the verge of taking over Philadelphia with Thomas Jefferson helping her. The Artwork is still trippy and great as always. This volume also includes the werewolf tie-in Elysium Gardens which I enjoyed. Can't wait to read what's next.
This is mainly a world building arc. It's all about helping James Jr. before he turns into a full vampire. Along the way we find out some of what's really going on. A vampiric Thomas Jefferson shows up and Abigail and her ilk are eating their way through the population of Philadelphia. Jason Scott Alexander's art is made for horror. I do think that sometimes he sacrifices storytelling for a cool image. There are times where I'm confused at what or why something happened.
With Philadelphia ablaze, Seesaw sets out on a quest to save Jimmy from his new-found vampirism. Meanwhile, another dead President makes his way onto the scene, but is Thomas Jefferson friend or foe?Easily the best arc so far. There are so many moving parts it's easy to forget about certain characters until they return to the fore, and while I'd initially expected this to fill the American Vampire-shaped hole in my pull list, it's becoming something far bigger than that now that we've got werewo...
