A collection of long short stories that manage to form part of not one, but two beloved literary canons; giving us an enticing new mythology for the birth of Holmes, and recasting Dupin, and Poe’s work in general, in an exciting new light. Under A Raven’s Wing is unquestionably a work of loving devotion to both Poe and Doyle's Holmes, and every page rings with that love. It also represents an astonishing feat of imagination, bringing out all of Volk’s talents at evoking time and place, together
What a great reimagining of Holes and Poe, loved this collection, all of the stories have appeared in different collections so it's nice to have them bound in one beautiful book.
An inventive and meticulously detailed account of the genesis of Sherlock Holmes and his mentor. Stephen Volk's knowledge is encyclopedic and he writes with real devotion but pulls off the sleight of hand of being original and surprising. It's a fiendishly clever and joyously gothic book. A antidote to real life as it is currently.PS Publishing have done a beautiful job with this. It's gorgeous.
What an amazing book! The author uses a really unique premise: before he met Watson, Sherlock Holmes spends several years in Paris, under the tutelage of "C. Auguste Dupin," the fictional detective created by Edgar Allan Poe (or so it seems.) It provides an amazing back story to Conan Doyle's detective in this collection of longer short stories, and also includes/touches upon other literary giants and icons, including Jules Verne, the Phantom of the Opera, and the hunchback, as well as some real...
Simply sublime from start to finish. The level of detail and the way it weaves its tales around real life events is astonishing. Captivating.
Under A Raven’s Wing is a new collection of stories by Stephen Volk and is published by PS Publishing. The seven stories contained within this beautifully produced book describe the exploits of a young Sherlock Holmes and his tutelage, in the Paris of the 1870s, by another famous fictional detective C. Auguste Dupin. It’s a marvellous concept bringing together the two men - the veteran and the rookie - with the old master passing on his knowledge and wisdom to the young man at the beginning of h...
So much to love here: the research, the history, the literary Easter Eggs, the elegant writing, the dialogue, the characters, the stories themselves. This is a book to savor and the best thing I've read this year, if not the last several years. Just wonderful.

On the one hand - boring and lacking intellectual rigour. On the other - a cringeworthy abomination sullying the legacies of both Holmes and Poe.
Under a Raven's Wing is a collection of stories staring a young Sherlock Holmes as the apprentice of C Auguste Dupin, as he learns the art of 'ratiocination'. This is very clever and very enjoyable. For fans of Sherlock Holmes and Edgar Alan Poe.
