Who wants you out? After many years of living in London, now seemed the perfect time for the family to move to Scotland. ‘Woodside’ seemed like the perfect house for them, surrounded by woodlands and wildlife, but still only four miles from the wife’s parents.Moving in day went smoothly enough, marred only by the discovery of a dead crow hanging upside down from the rotary washing line… oh, and someone shooting the mother-in-law’s guide dog!More dead crows, another shooting incident and someone b...
Bram and his wife Kirsty and their two children move to the Scottish Highlands so they can get.away from the hectic pace of the city and learn to enjoy the slower paced rural country life. Bram is a stay-at-home dad which his father-in-law continues to brow beat him about since he never felt Bram was good enough for his daughter and unfortunately the in-laws only live a few miles away from their new home. Immediately scary and vicious attacks surround the Hendriksen family. A sweet little guide
2.5 StarsOh how I wanted to love this book, and at first I did. It sucked me in and had me staying up late to finish. It had creepy woods and sinister neighbours...dead crows and scary shots from nowhere...scary masked men and malevolent internet trolls. I was really enjoying it up until three quarters of the way through...that's when it started to get ridiculous. I loved the writing and how the suspense kept me guessing and wanting to read more but there came a time when I starte
This is a brilliant read.Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.Recommend reading.I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
No Place Like Home by Jane Renshaw is a psychological thriller. I know I enjoy a Jane Renshaw book as I have read her work previously, I just didn't know how good it would be!Bram Hendriksen, his wife Kirsty and their two children, Max and Phoebe have decided to relocate, from London to the Scottish Highlands Kirsty's home town and close to her family. They have their dream home, custom made, and are keen to live with nature I suppose you could say. Bram has his own veggie patch and wants a wild...
I have read and loved a couple of Jane’s books now. I read the synopsis for ‘No Place Like Home’ and it certainly sounded like it would be a deliciously dark read. Well I couldn’t wait any longer to start reading and dived straight in. I did enjoy reading ‘No Place Like Home’ but more about that in a bit.As soon as I started reading ‘No Place Like Home’ I knew that I was in for a treat. I found it rather difficult to put the book down for any significant length of time. The characters intrigued
When I started reading this book I was not sure I was going to enjoy it. The main characters were just a little too perfect. Bram is a pacifist, a sanctimonious vegan, his wife Kirsty is closed in and unemotional, Max is the perfect son, no teenage angst there and the over emotional, clingy daughter Phoebe. They even have a room in their house called The Walton room!! Oh my, how that changed as the book progressed. The slow build up of tension until we went from second to sixth gear and the plot...
I wanted to enjoy this book so badly. It had nice creepy vibes at the beginning and I was loving it. The “twist” happens and it goes downhill from there into stupidity. I wanted to DNF around 50%, but pushed through. Should have just ditched it.Shoutout to NetGalley for the ARC.
This book is about a family who leave London for a new life in the countryside in Scotland. What seems like an idyllic life ends up with a sustained campaign against the family. Their dog is shot at, dead crows are found hanging up outside etc. I didn't like the family. They were too wishy washy for my liking, while the father in law was the complete opposite. However, the book was filled with tension with the non-stop targetting of the family. You're wondering what they possibly could have done...
Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the eARC.Bram, Kirsty and their two kids have left the busy city and are in Scotland living in their dream home, surrounded by woods. Kristy grew up there and her parents are close by. But unfortunately not all of the villagers seem to welcome them. Strange and ominous things are happening: dead crows hung, their dog shot and wounded and their home invaded even though it's been locked tight. No matter what they do, nasty incidents keep occurring and the...
Dead crows and dogs getting shot at, people breaking in. All this happens to Bram, Kristy and their kids when they move from London to a little village in Scotland. Supposed to be a idyllic place to settle which is Kristy's hometown, but someone doesnt want them there. The book started real slow for me and I had to get back to it twice. The story builds up well but would have liked it to have a faster pace. Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator books for the ARC
