Wonderful collection of Pugmire's eerie Sesqua Valley tales. Atmospheric and Lovecraftian, but also hauntingly beautiful, in a weird and creepy way. Pugmire's stories have a personal, lyrical, and mystical quality all their own. The author's afterwards to each of the stories really adds to the enjoyment of this collection.
Such beautiful lyricism in the prose & fiction of Mr. Pugmire... He is one of the authors keeping the Mythos fresh.
Outstanding collection of tales by W. H. Pugmire about his Sesqua Valley and its strange inhabitants. Pugmire's prose has an eerie, dreamlike quality to it that is just amazing. As he is an avid Lovecraftian, many of the tales feature nods to Lovecraft's work throughout, used beautifully to instill a sense of cosmic wonder and dread.Also included is a long sonnet called "The Songs of Sesqua Valley", which is quite excellent, showing that Pugmire is a masterful poet as well as prose writer.Highly...
I really enjoy Mr. Pugmire's work and I loved this book. His Sesqua Valley tales are my favorite. If you enjoy dark fantasy you will love this book.

Very repetitive and uninspired collection. Really not sure what all the hype for this author is about.

A splendid collection of unique Lovecraftian horror where the Dreamlands and Yog-Sothothery become one in a fantastic and umbral valley. Whereas much Cthulu Mythos fiction references the exterior facets of Lovecraft's creations, the squamous space horrors, the forbidden books and poorly-equipped students of esoteric lore, Pugmire keys into the poignancy Lovecraft's best work evoked. Definitely an acquired taste. Looking for forward to reading the other two volumes, just as soon as I finish the other books I'm involved in.
I read this collection December of 2020. I spent several weeks studying the stories & it did not disappoint. Pugmire established himself over the years as an ingenious creator, learning from masters like Poe, Lovecraft, & Blackwood. Every syllable, every word, & every detail contributes to the final effect without fail.
