Sacred & Profane: Calum Colvin

Sacred & Profane: Calum Colvin

James Lawson
0/5 ( ratings)
Calum Colvin is one of Scotland's leading contemporary artists; his works are internationally renowned and widely shown. A student of both sculpture and photography, Colvin brings these disciplines together in his unique style of 'constructed photography': assembled tableaux of objects which are then painted and photographed. His work has always been concerned with moral issues, and his complex compositions are rich in association and spatial ambiguities. Previous works drew upon the paintings of the fifteenth-century artist Hieronymous Bosch to explore how modern concerns may be expressed within the framework of traditional concepts of good and evil. As well as being visually exciting, humorous and intriguing, Colvin's work demonstrates that the art of the past is relevant in a modern society.
