To Canon Pallin his achievement was well worth the effort of a long life and a great fortune, but to his family the sacrifices which he had made took on other aspects. As they gather together in an attempt to settle the affairs of their father, now a very old man, the bitterness of past years wells up, Lady peck shows great skill in her handling of very diverse characters and her book will be enjoyed for both its unusual background and for its telling portraiture of a disillusioned generation.
