this short version of normal people is better than the full version and that's my hot take for the day.------------------currently-reading updates5 months is way too long to wait for more sally rooney, so binge reading her short stories it is!
Thank God she wrote Connell more sympathetically in 'Normal People'.
Marianne and Connell still breaking my heart.....
I mean, obviously.
missing them is a personality trait and it's mine
uh oh the last tiny bit of sympathy i had for Connell seems to have completely disappeared 😃
fascinating. apparently, this short story came out before 'normal people' and served as the basis for the development of the novel. set several years after the end of the book, it is in some ways darker than the novel. and yet it feels like the natural conclusion to their relationship. very real. no one can depict the small acts and thoughts of malice people perform and have towards the people they love better than sally rooney can.
I read this after I read Normal People. I understand that Rooney evolved the characters in Normal People, as here it’s the inspiration for the book. It was fun to still read about Marianne and Connel. You can see how they changed. How Rooney turn their backstories, their relationships and their personalities more defined. In the linear time of both stories, this one, comes after the end of Normal People, so it’s nice, like and epilogue, to see that after New York (if there was NY) they stayed fr...
so weird to read after normal people
I don't think Connel and Marianne will ever leave my heart. Thank God fanfiction exits. Here's a good one if you're looking for a happy ending: https://archiveofourown.org/works/243...
okay well i’m crying at 2:46am so this is getting 5 stars.
Any time spent with these characters through the eyes of Sally Rooney is going to be heart-wrenching and glorious.
"Marianne takes significant personal pleasure in having her pain validated by professionals."
Glad to read about Marianne and Connell again even if it's such a short story. I love these characters so much, I can't wait for my exams to be over at last so that I can watch the adaptation.
At the Clinic is a short story about the two characters from Sally Rooney's novel Normal People Marianne and Connell. This short story does nothing to disprove my opinion that the two are absolutely terrible for each other but made for a nice quick read.
why did i just find out today that she based marianne and connell off her short story and she wanted to go deeper so she wrote normal people, a story told chronologically where they are in uni.reading this definitely made me understand not only more about the characters but sally rooney too and now i have a new appreciation for her writing. i would definitely recommend reading this 15 page short..although the characters are a bit unpolished, it’s nice to see the author’s thought process behind t...
Maybe because Rooney wrote this before “Normal people” makes this short story’s events improbable.(Why Marianne was back with Daniel? They broke up, he was a jerk)I don’t think this a happy ending, this is really sad. It’s not working. They are not working. Something is missing. In this context, Connel and Marianne aren’t a couple and they will never be one again. It’a unbelievable that should count as a sequel. They are less mature than in the novel.I liked the original open ending. I’m glad tha...
