This Flanders Architectural Yearbook, published in 2004, is the sixth edition and the first published by the VAi . Every two years the yearbook provides a view of recent architectural developments in Flanders.
This edition looks at a selection of 15 buildings in exhaustive project descriptions. The articles are woven through the book like a thread; their themes were chosen on the basis of the projects submitted and current developments. They are, successively: a foreign author's view of a striking building from among those selected, a reflection on cultural infrastructure in the nebular city, on existing housing types in the urban setting, and on design-based research.
In accordance with tradition, the book also contains a survey of publications, exhibitions, talks, competitions and architecture prizes from the period covered. All this makes the yearbook a valuable source of information and a starting point for the development of the architectural debate in Flanders.
