There is, of course, no point attempting to say anything definitive about these or
any poems. This work started in 2007, due to a preoccupation with Romanticism
triggered by an encounter between myself, a book of Frank O'Hara and a statue of
Goethe, in Bryant Park.
"The Sorrows of Young Worthless" as it appears here is functionally a second edition,
substantially expanded and with things added and removed relative to the first
edition, which was published by Truck Books. It
was written in New York City and points up the Hudson, 2007-2009 and reflects
my near total devotion to the serial poem during that period.
"Defective Affinities" was written in 2010, in New York, Philadelpha and Washington
DC. Its first section appeared as a chapbook of sorts, and some of the other pieces
turned up in Apiary Magazine and Anomolous Press.
"Faust" was written in Chicago, 2011-2012. A large chunk of it was circulated as a
pdf chapbook by kind people in Seattle. One or two other things may have
appeared in Apiary and Anomolous, as well.
Anything else that anyone might need to to know is in the poems.
