This collection was provided to me for an honest review, specifically for Tears of Buddy. I plan to read the rest of these stories very, very soon. Which will be followed by another review. Shallow Waters, published by Crystal Lake publications, is a flash fiction story collection. With some great names inside, both established and new to the game. Tears of Buddy is penned by my good friend Patrick R. McDonough. You can read this story in just a few minutes, but it will be some of the most emoti...
A pretty good collection of flash horror by some talented authors. Most of the stories were good, some were excellent and some were decent. This is good collection to have on your phone for waiting rooms, long lines or anywhere you have a spare minute to read a quick story.
Creepy stories. These shorts really make going to bed fun.
Fascinated by the whole flash fiction idea and just had to get on board. ‘Shallow Waters Vol One’ is far from perfect, a variable collection, but one with a few really good reads, and all of the stories just a couple of minutes reading time. My favorites were ‘Tunnels’ by Tom Over and ‘Closure on a Bed of Nails by Chad Lutzke.
This is a special selection from Crystal Lake Publishing and Joe Mynhardt. You can read how this book came to be in the introduction. Don't skip it! As these are extremely short stories, my review of each will be short. I hope there aren't any spoilers. Closure on a Bed of Nails - Chris LutzkeWOW! I will never look at a bed of nails the same way again. And nightmares.Fast Car - Tracy FaheyThis author will have you holding your breath. Fast car indeed! Tears of Buddy - Patrick R. I'm a huge lover of Flash Fiction, so I had to try this out. And I'm so glad I did! I enjoyed almost every story, and I found some that were so good I have the whole book 5 stars. :)I think my favorite story was the one about the grey city and the guy saying "You're pretty like butterflies." That story, man. That freaked me the hell out and I loved it. I also really liked the guy who swallowed stuff. That was neat. Highly recommended for my fellow horror and flash fiction fans out there!
I’ve recently read Tiny Nightmares featuring the same lengths stories, so now I’m starting to think maybe it’s just not the right length of stories for me. I very much enjoy short stories in general, but usually the longer kind. In this form, they don’t quite develop all the way and often concentrate on the punchline (which is still fine) or a mood (less so) instead. Nevertheless, objectively this was a fine collection with many recognizable names in genre fiction, especially among the fans of C...
Shallow Waters, the first volume of flash fiction from Crystal Lake Publishing, showcases stories from a competition run by the publisher. The submitted stories are voted on by readers and published on their Patreon page. It’s a fantastic idea, and results in new voices being features alongside more established ones. At the start of each story is a mini-biography for the authors, and what’s striking here really is the mix. Many have had short stories published in other markets, or released their

Purely amazing and awesome!!! So many talented witers putting out wonderful flash fiction. Now I am going to order Vol. 2 of the collections!!!
It was a busy Christmas period. I'd just finished reading a large novel, and I needed something quick and easy to keep me going through the limited time between visiting family and friends. I picked up Shallow Waters Vol 1 from the kindle store (It's on Kindle Unlimited by the way, so take advantage of that while you can!) and it was just what the doctor ordered. I loved a lot of these tales, and I've picked up some novels from the authors found inside this book. This was my first experience wit...
I am a big fan of short story anthologies, in my opinion they offer more bang for your buck. There is always one or two stories the reader will enjoy, unlike a novel that the reader may end up not liking or not finishing.Shallow Waters Vol 1 is a flash fiction collection (very short, in some cases a page long) of some very spooky and atmospheric stories. All the stories had horrific qualities to them, but also touch a wide spectrum of emotions.Well written on the whole, but there were one or two
I was a bit disappointed because I have to say this collection or rather the stories in here were not very memorable. It is a flash fiction collection of Horror stories and after finishing there is one story I can recall right away, for the rest I have to check my notes and even then my memory cannot always be triggered. The big disclaimer I have to put in this review: I read this stretched out over months. It was my phone book, I started having an easy book on my phone for walks with my now bli...
This was a lot of fun. Like a tapas bar of horror that give you a taste of a variety of unique authors. I definitely will check out the next entries in the series.
This collection of flash fiction contains a variety of immersive stories that draws the reader into each situation seamlessly. There are horror stories with vicious twists, emotional narratives with surprising outcomes, and body horror that displays the grotesque and the unexpected. My favorite stories included Tears of Buddy by Patrick R. McDonough, Pretty Like Butterflies by Tim Waggoner, Memory Lane by Red Lagoe, Charms by Dino Parenti, Tunnels by Tom Over and Raining by John Boden. This well...
Spooky!Enjoyed this book. The stories were good with characters well defined in most instances. Atmosphere s were great. Only had a couple where i got completely lost and could not figure out tge plot! Overall a great read.
I found this as a free download and picked away at it for a couple weeks. This is a soft 3 star anthology. For a collection of flash fiction, these stories all felt strangely bloated - meandering to contrived, twisty/clever points. There are a couple dozen tales in this anthology. None stood out. All of them recede into a wash of forced atmosphere and climaxes that just don’t hit. It is especially frustrating that virtually every story spends the bulk of its text piling up mood just to pull some...
It never ceases to amaze me when someone can weave 22 different short stories from different authors into a dreadfully delightful book. Shallow Waters is a quick read that full of a variety of 2-4 page short stories. Each author brings out their own uniqueness in the story they chose to submit. None of the chosen short stories leaves any want of more. The amount of development and length is perfect for each story. The conclusions to some will leave you scarred. The first two stories were wonderf...
Well.....what to say about this book. I have never read anything quite like it before, but I did try to get up to at least the 40% mark last night, but I just gave up as the stories are really strange - they really didn't make sense. It seems I might be in the minority on this one as it seems to have received quite a few good ratings, but maybe it was just me and I wasn't in the mood. Will put the book on a far back burner for now and maybe tackle it somewhere down the road. Adding this to my "d...
