4 STARS.I have been highly anticipating this new Nordic Noir novel for quite some time now and it definitely didn’t disappoint 🙌🏼 I haven’t read any books by either of the two authors before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book and think it was a fantastic start to a new Scandinavian crime series 🕵🏼♀️🖤What I enjoyed most about this book was the dynamic between the two main protagonists. I found them both to be extremely refreshing characters and I loved getting...
4.5/5 stars for this gripping Nordic series launch! What do you get when two of Norway's beloved crime writers team up? The answer, as it turns out, is this gripping procedural-meets-serial killer thriller. In Death Deserved, a serial killer is targeting celebrities in Norway, and the police find themselves in a race against the clock to track the killer down before he strikes again. Death Deserved is a fantastic launch of a new Norwegian crime series, and it's co-written by authors with i
When I learned that Jørn Lier Horst was writing a new series, I have to get my hands on it. Collaborating with Thomas Enger (about whom I know nothing), I was hoping for something as exciting coming from this Norwegian duo. Alex Blix is a Violent Crimes detective working in Oslo, having risen through the ranks over the years. When he is called to the scene of a missing woman, it turns out that she is a well-known sports personality. Blix encounters an eager journalist, Emma Ramm, who wants a sco...
This is the first in a series featuring Norwegian detective Alexander Blix and celebrity blogger Emma Ramm. It's a fast paced tale which ticks a lot of boxes - a solid police procedural as detectives hunt for a deranged serial killer murdering famous people by numbers. Blix is still tormented by the result of a hostage situation nearly two decades earlier in his career. He and Ramm form an unusual partnership in the search for a killer who exhibits a theatrical flair as he carries out his deadly...
Let's start this review by saying something I have said plenty of times before. Mystery is probably the only genre I am not picky about. Give me a good mystery, complex and hard to solve and I don't need anything else. The characters can even be two-dimensional and the world suck to its core. If it has an AMAZING mystery, chances are it will get at least 3 stars. But to this book I gave 1.50 stars and I am still not sure if that wasn't too much. And what confuses me the most is the amount of goo...
A very entertaining book, with lots of different story strands. Very interesting characters especially Blix. A few red-herrings but such a great reading. ( and I didn't guess who had done it) Will definitely be looking out of more in this series.
My complete review of "Death Deserved" can be found here: https://fictionophile.com/2020/05/24/...I found that I immediately connected with both the protagonists in this novel so I was eager to follow their experiences in this very interesting serial killer case.Blix was clever, a born copper, who follows his gut instincts to conduct his behavior at work. His workaholic mentality has jeopardized his relationship with his wife and daughter. Now divorced, he lives in an impersonal flat in which he...
Holy flying …. kjøttkaker!!!! (that’d be meatballs) I can’t even begin to think about what to say about Death Deserved. Except … I am making space on my shelves for what will undoubtedly become one of my favourite series. You may remember my sadness when Thomas Enger’s previous series featuring Henning Juul came to an end. That series was my first introduction to Scandi-Noir and a new love affair was born. But now Thomas Enger has embarked on another adventure, alongside Jørn Lier Horst and as I
In a stroke of genius, two of the most recognisable and talented Norwegian crime writers, Thomas Enger and Jorn Lier Horst have joined forces to produce Death Deserved, and what a collaboration it is. Centring on a series of murders targeting well known personalities, the story ( the first of a series) sees a mirroring of the writer’s own specialities in their crime fiction. Jorn Lier Horst is an ex-policeman, author of the hugely successful William Wisting series so naturally the joint main pro...
This is the debut collaboration between two of Norway’s foremost crime writers which features police officer Alexander Blix and reporter Emma Ramm.Ramm is due for an interview with controversial former athlete Sonja Nordstrøm who has recently released a scandalous autobiography, but, on arriving at Nordstrøm’s home, finds the door unlocked and signs of a struggle in the empty house. Blix, still haunted by a tragic hostage case from 19 years ago, is delegated to head the missing persons investiga...
Vapid, corny book with so many side plots that really don’t go anywhere and probably one of the stupidest most far fetched conclusions I’ve ever read. The murderers motive might have been interesting if they’d spent more than 3 pages and a handful of dumb ass tropes to describe it and prove neither of these authors know how to write interesting dialogue.
DEATH DESERVED is the first episode of a gripping Nordic Noir Crime Series by Jørn Lier Horst , Thomas Enger and Anne Bruce (Translator), published through Orenda books. This is a fast-paced read and one that is hard to put down!Police officer Alexander Blix and celebrity blogger/ want-to-be journalist Emma Ramm work together to track down a serial killer, in the first episode of a new gripping Nordic Noir series. Blix and his boss Fosse had once been classmates, but now were patrol partners in
Review to follow for the tour.
Some publishers are just complete go-to. Crime fiction and Nordic Noir are phrases that are somonis with Orenda Books. This blog tour invitation for Death Deserved was an automatic YES YES YES. Nordic Noir is a relatively new genre for me, but I am quickly falling head over heels. It has restarted my heart and gave me a passion for crime fiction once more. I couldn’t wait to get my grubby little hands on this exciting and riveting read. I was expecting huge things from this superstar double act....
Police officer Alexander Blix and celebrity blogger Emma Ramm join forces to track down a serial killer with a thirst for attention and high-profile murders, in the first episode of a gripping new Nordic Noir series…First to disappear is a celebrity long-distance runner who is preparing to launch her new book. But then there are other celebrity deaths, gruesome in nature. What do they all have in common other than their celebrity status .. and who wants them dead?Ordinarily, police and bloggers
Wow, what a great story. I knew after the first couple of chapters that I was going to enjoy it, and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved the intensity of the plot, and the detail and background both Authors have put into the characters. Alexander Blix is the sort of detective you want on your team, he doesn’t care too much about his bosses or the rules, only about catching the killer. It’s a good sign when all you want to do is read a book and not do anything else.Detective Alexander Blix was a polic...
A short Christmas review:When two top writers get their heads together, what can you expect? Brilliant new Nordic Noir that's what. I am on a role with good creepy, complex books at the moment and this one is a great addition.A police officer and a media blogger join forces in what is a very unique and modern way.I haven't read of this mix before in a crime novel - at least not in this way - and I loved the match of the serious and the not so serious aspects of our society. There are a lot of qu...

Police officer Alexander Blix and celebrity blogger Emma Ramm are teaming up to track down a serial killer who is targeting a seemingly unrelated group of famous people starting with former long-distance runner Sonja Nordstrom. After Nordstrom misses the launch of her controversial autobiography, Emma Ramm is determined to find out what has happened to her. When Emma finds Nordstrom’s front door unlocked and signs of a struggle she has no choice, but to turn to the police for assistance.Officer
Sweet baby Jesus, where do I even begin?! If one of your new year’s resolutions was to exercise more, Horst and Enger have you covered, forget that treadmill or the elliptical bike, just read Death Deserved! I felt like I’d run 10k, my breathing was so fast, my heart was racing, I’m pretty sure my blood pressure was through the roof! I’m not even exaggerating a little bit!Now don’t worry, not the entire book is as nerve-wracking and explosive as the final part, which is quite fortunate really ‘c...
