When I first see her, she catches my attention for only a moment.
She’s beautiful, but she’s not available. Not to someone like me, not now when I’m knee deep in the worst out there, and not for the kind of things I need.
Except then I see her again. And again. Until it becomes clear she is part of this world that I’ve been forced to assimilate to.
Now, figuring out if she’s just too innocent to know the world she's caught up in, or too good a liar to have been trusted, is proving harder than it should be.
