I'm rating this a four star review based on its success as good example of erotic horror. Ray Garton set out to write an X-rated novel and succeeded with this one. The story focuses on the Pritchard's, an "average" middle-class family in an average middle-class neighborhood, and their succumbing to the evil, soul-sucking (among other things) ways of a living succubus who chooses to move into the house across the street from them. Those sounds you hear are taboos getting violated throughout the p...
WARNING: This review contains potential spoilers & rude language. Yer on yer own, now. This one's a little too messed up for me. I'm not a big fan of the more graphic horror stories, and when you throw in screwed-up sexual behavior, I'm pretty much done (while not particularly visceral this one straddles the line on incest, if you'll excuse the weak but appropriate pun). I don't care if the supernatural evil bad thing is the one responsible for the behavior, I still don't want to read about it an...
I am so glad Cemetery Dance press decided to re release this story. Definitely not a read for the sensitive types because this lady terror neighbor pulls out some pretty graphic and horrible behavior from her victims. The story was well written, well paced, and deeply disturbing :) I would have given it 5 stars but there were some horrible scenes towards the family cat and well...yes I am one of THOSE people...be as mean as you need to be to humans , more so to the deserving ones, but leave the
Crazy fun by Ray Garton.....not for your Aunt Betty....unless she is into sex and horror that is!!!
My neighbor is a greasy, loud, obnoxious slob. I’m not saying I would rather have a beautiful, evil, soul sucking succubus living next door, but Ray Garton at least makes a solid case for it - if it weren’t for the mass murder and going straight to hell part… Ok. I lied. My neighbors are all actually very nice and not slobby, nor particularly, greezy. Can’t really have a super sexy succubus running amok, fucking and killing everybody in the neighborhood anyway, it’s just not good for property va...
An absolute classic. You'll never forget that new neighbour. Masterly written, a real nightmare of sex and gore!
I read Ray Garton's The Loveliest Dead, first.. I liked it so much that I randomly chose another of his books and began reading it.Picture, if you will, the precipice of a mountain overlooking a sheer drop into a deep black void. The Loveliest Dead was the precipice. From the moment I started reading The New Neighbor, I was falling off the cliff and dropping into the void. In this case, the void never ends. It just keeps sucking you down more and more until you ALMOST reach the bowels of hell its...
In this novel the author takes us into new territory with graphic sex and violence. We are introduced to a family, the Pritchards, that are doing okay in a middle class neighborhood. Along comes Lorelle- even her name is mythological/symbolic . This is a well thought through, tightly plotted novel that leaves you with a sense of dismay. You want to shake sense into the characters. This novel seems more akin to Edward Lee than Garton of the past. For me that was okay. Although I normally don't li...
Ray Garton intrigues me. His horror is fast, clean, and in your face, but at the same time, completely entertaining. The New Neighbor is a beautiful woman who moves in across the street and stirs things up in a quiet American town. Pretty soon the men become enchanted, then the women and then the killing starts. Lots of sex and violence and a whole lot of fun. Ray's style is very close to Bentley Little, so for Bentley fans, check out Garton. You will be pleased.
I think the 4 star rating for this book is a bit kind and probably results from Garton's dedicated fan base (I count myself within this group). Despite the inner dust jacket summary, this book is not really erotica and not really horror. The plot line is overly simplistic. Various scenes of seduction (by a succubus, of course) are strung together and then ended with a cheesy neighborhood mob scene and some poor special effects. I love Garton and I still enjoyed reading this book. But knowing how...
A new neighbor sets her sights on the whole neighborhood for her own devious needs and she's willing to do anything to anyone, no matter how dirty, to get it.
Lust Personified: An Appreciation of Ray Garton’s “The New Neighbor”“Splatterpunk” was a term created to categorize a genre practiced from the late 80s to the early 90s by a select group of horror writers. Their writing style was characterized by a combination of over-the-top gore and violence as well as sexuality to make a critique of social and political institutions. In short, it was the paperback as a thinly-veiled protest. Books like The Bridge slyly commented on the destruction of the envi...
Nice little erotic horror story. It's been a while since I read any thing by Ray Garton. He really knows how to pile on the sex scenes. I gotta admit Succubuses (Succubi) are kind of hot. Come on guys. If you are going to die a horrible death in a horror novel, would you rather have the monster suck your blood or...? I give it three and a half stars but if I compared it to the overhyped and tedious Fifty Shades of Gray, it would get five stars easy.
Ray Garton has done it again, the mastermind of horror lighting up our lust for the macabre like a flamethrower. This time, it's the story of Lorelle, a descendent of Lilith the succubus. This sexy new neighbor gives everyone the sexual ecstasy they THINK they want, until they realize the life has been sucked right out of them.
Garton does dirty sex well. If you’re after a down and dirty sweaty story, you couldn’t do much better than this. Meet Lorelle Dupree, the sexy new neighbor in the small town of Redding, USA, whose just moved in opposite the Pritchards, the average American family. Lorelle wastes no time in seducing each and every member of the family as her thirst for kinky sex is unquenchable. But she holds a darker secret, one that threatens to destroy the Pritchards once peaceful existence, maybe even their
This book was just something I read on a whim to see if I would like it. The set up in the beginning was very intriguing, so I kept reading not realizing it was about to get real. I’m not one for sexually explicit material other than the Shades of Grey books, but this might have been even worse. Thank god it was only one chapter, plus, I was already invested so I kept on reading. The succubus theory and background was cool and I would have given this book 5 stars had the author given a little mo...
Wow, this book was crazy! I loved the idea of a beautiful demonic woman moving in and seducing the neighbourhood. It was one hot and crazy rollercoaster ride and it kept me reading right until the end. Can't wait to read more of Garton's books!
George and Karen Pritchard are a happily married couple with two teen-aged children, Robby and Jen. One night, they discover that a new neighbor, Lorelle, has moved across the street. But she's not your typical neighbor. For one thing, she's exceptionally gorgeous. Oh, and she has a certain...appeal...on everyone she meets, regardless of gender, age, race religion, etc. Everyone is extremely attracted to her. And everyone seems to succumb to her seductive ways.Yet, such pleasure comes at a c
Another excellent tale of horror and depravity from the wickedly twisted imagination of Ray Garton.
While it is to be expected there will be sex in a story about a succubus, Ray Garton does a wonderful job to ensure its not all about sex. The characters feel realistic and the horror is palpable in the atmosphere that he has built in this book. I went in with low expectations and came out pleasantly surprised and horrified.Overall, it's a good book that could have done with just a pinch more characterization.
