Affirmative Action and Employment Equity in Corporate South Africa describes how the business community in the young rainbow nation is currently working to redress the lingering inequalities of apartheid. Affirmative action, an issue of great relavance in contemporary South Africa, constitutes activities intended to uplift the previously disadvantaged groups, especially blacks, in the organisations. The study approaches the many aspects of inplementing affirmative action - from working with attitudes, organizing policies and roles, recruiting and promoting, to training, procuring and monitoring.
The report is based on numerous interviews with employees and consultants at organisations operating in various business sectors, as well as professors and experts in the field of affirmative action and employment equity. Throughout, the discussion is accompanied by authentic examples, colourful images and brief recommendations to managers. All this is framed in parts outlining the background and the future challenges facing South Africa.
The authors are studying for a Master of Science in Economics and Business at the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden. They are also members of the international student association AIESEC.
