I actually backed this in Kickstarter but at the time could only afford to contribute a couple of quid, and today I finally got a hold of a copy and can honestly say it was well worth the wait. Dave writes eloquently about how to plan a Wargaming project at a variety of scales with some stunning examples of both his own work and that of some guest contributors.
I backed up this book on Kickstarter and after reading it I have to say that I am really happy with how it turned out. Not only for the inspiring and downright awesome pictures with armies and war bands, but also for the advice and ideas for approaching large scale projects given in the first part of the book. I think there was some misunderstanding on the purpose is this book when it first came out. It's not really intended as a beautiful art book to sit on the coffee table. Much of the art is gorgeous, Dave has painted many gorgeous armies in his time however the function of this book is to help give painters the structure to allow them to achieve the volume and output that gets fully painted armies to the table and for this the book is amazing.
Really excellent guide to collecting, building, and painting miniature armies, featuring some great photography and wonderful advice for project planning and not becoming disappointed with your own progress. A kickstarter worth backing, for sure.
Was part of the Kickstarter for this book, and while I wasn't entirely satisfied, I wasn't by any means totally disappointed. I was hoping that the book would have more tips for planning, techniques for speed and ways to organize and motivate yourself to get things finished. Now, that being said, the book DOES cover all of this and more. I suppose I just expected this stuff to take up most of the page count, when in reality it is maybe 10% of the book.
