I found that this was an easy read since it's compelling and is written in a way that keeps your attention and focus. Shaman does have the gift and he can connect with spirits. He tries to keep what he's saying modern by using words like "Lit" which is both kind of entertaining and grating. I would say that I think he does kind of have an ego issue (thinking you're great is good but he gives me the impression that he feels like he's infallible). I like that he's able to be vulnerable about his e...
Overall this author is on point. He's is reflecting and thinking on the same subjects that I do. We do need to take responsibility for our actions and we need to take care of Earth. He writes "we continue to shove our heads in the sand, and pretend like nothing’s wrong, and that it’s all working out fine because we have eleven thousand Instagram followers, and our manicure is on fleek, then it’s gonna be painful, and we might very well blow it." Are we really doing this though? Are we really in
This book had some interesting content, BUT the audiobook narration was painful!
Shaman Durek offers practices to spiritual seekers who are looking for ways to improve their lives through the use of shamanistic techniques. Like most new age or spiritual books, not everything in here resonated with me. But I will take a few key concepts and jettison the rest. For starters, I took issue with the title of this book, "Spirit Hacking". It implies that there are some sort of tested and proven short cuts to bringing spiritual dimensions into one's life. I think most readers are wise...
This book didn't work for me. I didn't mind the modern, casual tone. I didn't even mind the fluent use of the vernacular. I did, however feel that the author held himself up a bit too high in regard and appeared to look down on everyone else. I could have done without the rants on "new-agers" and "bobbleheads" and preferred he stuck with what I chose the book for, learning to move into the liminal spaces. Instead I got something too preachy for my personal tastes. This book will register well wi...
Life can be challenging and it sends people looking for answers when the truth is what they seek is inside of themselves, they just need to learn how to access it. This book is a deep look into helping one connect with and utilizing that which cannot be seen while asking to have faith in the unknown. Written in a style that gives as good as it gets, the book is filled with no nonsense and gives an honest look at a subject that may be uncomfortable for some but definitely worth reading. If you ar...
Shaman Durek offers an interesting and somewhat unique point of view on energy work, spirituality, and shamanism. Not all of the author's advice with resonate or work for everyone, but it was interesting to read and some of the exercises (in specially marked boxes throughout the book), were especially interesting and helpful to explore.
Shaman Durek is a modern Shaman teaching us all we need to know to live our best lives!Simple tricks and practices to support us as we are awakening, growing and transforming.I also really like how transparent he is about his personal journey and giving us the space to relate and learn from his stories.
I love this book and Shaman Durek. He is very real, authentic, empowering and wise with so much love to the world. But I have to say that this book doesnt do him justice.. I understand that he can be percieved in certain ways and i do not support the way he talks down on some things/people, however i can assure you that he is a beautiful, wise and loving soul, but with a provocative side to him. And that is his intention aswell, because it's just what some poeple need. I believe It's important n...
No one to blame but myself for this one. Here's the problem. Conceptually, I think biohacking is cool, because I came up reading extensively on evolution, Zen buddhism, and the aggressive cyberpunk revival of the mid 90s. Unfortunately, the community surrounding it is insufferable. Ditto for things like paleo dieting. It's the Rick and Morty effect. The show is pretty clever, but you can't tell anyone you think that or you'll get grouped in with people who like Rick and Morty.I've got an academi...
For someone who claims to be all about love, Shaman Durek seems to be pretty angry. His spirit hacks aren’t exactly anything new yet he dishes other new age teachers and mentions them by name. I found this to be distasteful and made me give up on the book. If you are all about love.. you should love other people’s point of view as well, no ?. Or maybe not.
When I started reading this book, I was thinking "Why did I pick this up? (I borrowed it from the library, by request) What is all this woowoo?" and I almost put it down. Then, it hit me -- this is some real stuff! It's certainly not your usual self help book, nor is it a run of the mill set of claims like The Secret, but it's a real handbook for bringing you -- yes, you! -- into a place of light.I'm returning my library copy so others can, just maybe, get some benefit from it. Rest assured, thou...
Dave Asprey writing the foreword was definitely cause for concern. The author is really interesting, has a compelling backstory and some interesting exercises. However, there’s some problematic stuff especially towards the end. I like that he has strong beliefs, but I don’t agree.
I found this book pretty painful to get through. In one way it's a bit entertaining because Durek constantly calls out others for being narcissistic and ego-driven, while of course he has the biggest ego of them all... But then on the other hand it's also really annoying to see someone so enamored with himself that his own head will probably blow up one day. Something that irritates me is that it is presented as a workbook wanting to teach you "spirit hacks", but really it doesn't teach you much...
Couldn't actually finish this one, which is unusual for me. The ideas are common in spirituality, just described in the author's own words. I think he gets caught up in semantics and judging other people's use of language. I can definitely see it resonating with some people (though I don't know them) but I found it much too preachy and with the attitude of "this is the absolute truth" (which is why I left religion in the first place).
This is a book for everyone. But that doesn't mean everyone will love it. What that means is that it benefits us as a whole.Shaman Durek is blunt and doesn't sugar coat. That will ruffle a few feathers and some readers may feel challenged by his viewpoints. That is a good thing. It fosters growth in a time when that is exactly what we need. Gift this book to the last person you think would like it. That's who needs to read it.I love this book and am excited to re-read it and familiarize myself w...
The book contains a collection of general spiritual wisdoms and techniques common in the spiritual world. The "hacks" are more psychological and spiritual but not so much shamanic (meaning, it is a spiritual practise but the methods offered are vaguely shamanic). The book contains very little information about the shamanic "world" and its "practices". Shaman Durek presents a solution to the messed up world. An examination of spirituality often leads - no matter what kind of branch involved - to
Love Shaman Durek’s insight and providing motivation on how to live a beautiful life. This isn’t a book that you just read and then put on your shelf to get dusty. He provides spirit hacks and insight on how to get more in touch with your spiritually and Mother Earth, all to help change the world one breathe at a time!
Absolutely loved this book. Be prepared to get called out on every shadow and awaken to the truth about our world. It moved me greatly and I could see it being a book I come back to every year just to be reminded of the seriousness of what is truly going on in our world right now and the importance of doing my part to bring in the so-called giant age. :)
Loved every thought and word in this book! This is exactly what every person in this world needs to read right now. This book should be incorporated into school curriculums from kindergarten and throughout all children’s education.I learned a lot from Shaman Durek’s teachings in this short book and have already shared a lot of the knowledge with my 7 year old daughter, who absorbed it immediately and started using the hacks for herself in different situations. And she not only loves it, she now t...
