*2.5*Should have this been a complete origin story of Beckett and Friends? Not really, but I would’ve liked to see this lead to up to Beckett’s appearance in Solo, but this was just too short for a one-shot and the alternating artwork in each chapter, whilst not annoying, just felt unnecessary.
This is one of those comics that you sit down to read, enjoy well enough while you’re reading it, and then forget about completely the minute you set it down – in other words, it’s your typical one-shot comic. There’s some cool bits here and there – especially if you enjoyed “Solo” – and Beckett himself remains a fun, interesting character…but if you’re looking for the next great “Star Wars” tale, be warned: this is pretty bare bones.
Actual rating is 2.5 stars. This is a one shot comic about characters that we see for the very first time in the Solo movie. This is a quick adventure and a quick read. In this one, Beckett and his crew are attempting a caper to obtain some goods. In this universe, we know that will never be easy. While reading this I did enjoy it as I was in the moment. As for the long term there is nothing memorable and I will probably forget about it within a month. It doesn't add anything to the characters and...
I want another Tobias Beckett comic, maybe even his own series. I will admit that I wanted more from this one-shot, but what I got was pretty good. Too good to just be a one-shot. He is a great character, surrounded by an ensemble that we didn't get enough of in Solo. The characters in Solo are so great that they deserve more canon appearances.
Absolutely loved Beckett in Solo. Finally we see a character with some real presence and swagger, gives off the vibe that's hes the Cad Bane of the imperial era. Unfortunately, none of that is here. Only a unoriginal romp that explores nothing of interest. No Aurra Sing, no origin story, no Val relationship, no Maul (but a dissapointing fakeout), not even Dryden Vos.It's a shame, Beckett gets some crap from certain people for being white and famous Woody harrelson; unfortunately Duggan's lacklus...
Short solo adventure for a character who's never gotten much love.
I liked this comic. It is full of double dealing, double crosses and reversals. The artwork is great, and story was perfect inline with Beckett's character from the Solo movie. The only reason I did not give thus 5 stars is there is no character development between Beckett and his crew. They just seem to go along with Beckett's flow.A good comic, I would have like to see a bit more character development, and a bit more on Becketts legendary quick draw, and possible the adventure that enhanced his...
What a bland, predictable story.
I own this book. Beckett follows Tobias Beckett, the lucky, aloof criminal that we first met in Solo. He's an interesting character, who has ties to Crimson Reign and is being hunted down by Enfys Nest. This story is split into three smaller stories that follow Beckett and his team as they commit various heists to pay their debts and line their own pockets. It is full of double-crossing and hoodwinking and I really liked the fun adventure of it all. It really makes for a quality Star Wars tale
Not good at all.
Fun, one off adventure with Beckett and his crew running scams, stealing some merchandise, and dodging Enfys Nest. A nice little companion to Solo: A Star Wars Story
Another One-Shot, this time, using one of the main characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Tobias Beckett. In this collection of three stories, we’re able to dig inside a little adventure, prior to the film events, since we’re also able to see his former team-mates, Rio and Val, as well as a quick presence from Enfys Nest, also another character from the Star Wars spin-off. I said it in regards of Dr. Aphra, while reading one of the volumes; there’s a certain aspect of the Star Wars underground...
Feels kind of like an off-brand Firefly comic. Really hard to shake the Mal/Zoe vibes with Beckett and Val.Artwork is fine, but the story was a bit too disjointed for me, even giving allowance for the “episodic” chapters. A safe skip for all but the most thorough of Star Wars fans.
I hate that I have to count this as a book considering its 35 pages but because of my Star Wars canon challenge it needs to go on hereI enjoyed this comicWasn’t my favourite but it was enjoyable The art work was gorgeous and it had a pretty decent storyline Tbh there isn’t much to say cause it was legit 35 pages
Let's just get it out of the way: This does not tell the story of Tobias Beckett vs Aurra Sing. I know some fans were expecting that, but an event that big does not belong in a one-shot comic. Especially not one like this that has three short stories that feel rushed. My expectations were pretty low since Marvel has had a bad track record with these one-shots that tie into the films, with Cassian & K-2SO being the only good one. C-3PO: The Phantom Limb had good existential concepts but terrible
Here's the next comic in my lineup from the comics I got at the end of 2019 on Comixology. This one actually was published in the trade paperback of Star Wars: Han Solo - Imperial Cadet, but I decided to do separate reviews because they were originally published separately and they are completely different stories.Like I mentioned in my review of Han Solo Imperial Cadet, I really enjoyed the film Solo: A Star Wars Story. And the train heist with Beckett, Val, and Rio was one of the standout scen...
An excellent one-shot. In contrast to the Lando (Double or Nothing... which I wish was better) 5 issue series, this tells a tale of how this band works a job, why they are doing jobs like this at all, and what they hope to get out of the next job. The three members of the gang are all interesting and have their own personalities without being caricatures. This is a great lead in to watching Solo.
Han Solo movie's prequel we didn't want, didn't need and I didn't enjoy. This single issue (thank Lord for that) introduces the character, who needn't more introduction in the story that needn't be told. I have a high tolerance for SW comics universe, but even I must admit this is both totally unnecessary and not good.
Beckett was always man of an action and with his team, there was no heist, he wouldn’t do. The fast paced comics full of scum and villainy without moral baggage. Beckett and his team were criminals and they didn’t pretend to be anything else.
I *loved* Solo. Just loved it (and am still a little depressed that it kind of bombed...). So the chance to see more of these characters was right up my alley. And... Well, it's a little disappointing, really. Honestly, if I didn't love the characters so much, there would be very little here to rate this decently at all. It is a bit of a cliché story in a lot of ways and it is far too short. It could have played out over the course of a full length graphic novel and been much better...Still, eve...
