Because the material and concepts are dense, it took me a while (about 2 monts) to get through this book. At first I was very hung up on the author's tone and how self-aggrandizing she sounded, or how it seemed she took credit for "discovering" or repackaging ancient yogic practices. However, beyond that, I realized that the content and exercises could indeed be really powerful, and so I urged myself to give her a break, focus on the positive, continue reading and stay open. And I'm glad I did.
This is an amazing book. Through this book I have been able to rediscover myself again. After starting to practice these easy exercises I have been able to heal my body and my mind. I feel great every day. I feel I'm a day closer to my greater self and that keeps me going. Everyone should read this book.
Nice book, although kinda Goop-ish.The book gave information and advice on how to balance your chakras basically. This will definitely be a gateway book to get me to research more authentic yogi's and their practices. One of my criticisms of this book is when she outright said she didn't care what science could prove about the energy codes. I'm not sure what kind of medical degree she has, or how she got one without believing in science, but okay. Being esoteric, or spirit work doesn't mean to m...
I found out about this book from the wrestler Ryback of all people. He was on a podcast and said it was one of the books which had a big impact on him, so I thought I’d give the audiobook a try. At first I wasn’t sure on the whole energy idea but the advice she gives and practical exercises you can do I will most definitely have to try and incorporate in some way.I have been trying to recently get to a better state mindfully and physically. Hearing her discuss meditation and yoga has motivated m...
I was actually seeking out videos and online live events to watch Sue Morter. She has charisma and I was captured. However, this book dampened my enthusiasm as well as her "spam-like marketing" emails. I am have unsubscribed from everything at this point. I did not read every word in this book - it is far to wordy! And too "my way is the best way" and you have to "jump through 23 hoops while twisting into a pretzel and jumping on your left foot 13 times" type of complexity (this is my silly exam...
Not sure how to rate the book. So it’s basically chakras I think but re-framed in a more modern “medicine” package. Seems to kind of over- promise - this work will cure your every ill, give you boundless energy, etc. But maybe it was a failure in implementation on my part. Probably would be better to have the written book to refer back to - I listened to the audio version. Intrigued by her personal stories, especially the four-leaf clovers story. Also her “take it to the body” message was good.
The first 25% of the book was a lot of repeat stories and over-arching topics. But the actual chapters with activities, exercises, and inquiries were wonderful. If I had to do it again, I would read the first few pages of chapter 1, and then just go right into the actual code chapters. All that said, imagine the effort of trying to summarize your life's work + your father's life's word into one book. What an incredible gift to us all!
Actually this is a ... how to do it book. A book for those that are ready for it. She is one brave Lady to have opened her experiences and her decades of learning and teaching to the general public the majority of which may have little knowledge or interest in the subject. However for those who are searching for a technique that has both a medical, scientific and spiritual proven base this work," The Energy Codes" is pure gold. It is apparent she has down stepped the terminology in her eagerness...
The message is beautiful, the passion is there and the subject is interesting, unfortunately, it is a subject involving practices that did not fit very well into the delivery of this book. The build up and sell of each code outweighed the details on how to practice each code, which often times left me a bit frustrated and losing interest. This felt like it stumbled into the stereotypical trope of a tabooed “self help” book. Mention the schtick, concrete the image through repetition, supply reade...
In this book, Dr. Sue Morter, introduces seven energy codes for healing and transformation. Dr. Morter integrates these energy codes with Yoga as well. These techniques would be really useful for many people for their healing. But, as a practitioner of mindfulness and insight meditation, IMHO, it makes more sense if you could emphasize into meditation rather than the practices mentioned in this book. For example, Compassion/ Loving-Kindness meditation is more effective than the Heart code practi...
I'm not quite sure how to start with this one. This book doesn't fit neatly into a category. It's not exactly a spiritual book, but I think it requires a certain level of belief in the premise if you plan to use the steps outlined within. I did find this book fascinating though. Though most Christians would probably label this book "New Age" there are, in my opinion, some similarities between the Christian concept of the Holy Spirit and this author's description of an energy outside of ourselves...
Energy healing is nothing new. It is as ancient as Bible and other holy scriptures. It is being continuously rediscovered by more and more people searching for deeper meaning of life. New discoveries continue to lead to the energy field and to a new branch of science called epigenetics – simply put, “our environment is more important than our genetic inheritance.” The key is to live as conscious energy being. The codes are to help us to shift from Protective Personality to Soulful Self, which ca...
The methodology presented in this book is solid. The techniques are useful and do work. However, it was a challenge to finish listening to it, due to author's presentation of the methods as being her own. As the book progresses a highly inflated ego emerges. In my experience someone that is truly awaken has long shed this level of ego. Being the material is good, I am giving the presentation the benefit of the doubt and will listen to other books by her. We have all misunderstood where we are on
I read through this book before deciding whether or not to attend a workshop based on it. I only did two of the exercises: hence my low rating, because only by following the instructions and doing everything along the way would I know how well it works. That said, I think it CAN work, as it is based on what I already know to be true about energy, chakra-based healing, breathing, and meditation; it's just put together in a "system" that Morter calls the energy codes. If you don't already have a p...
This book is amazing if you use its practices. It’s a bit difficult to read due to the way it is written. It’s almost like a text book. You won’t understand it until you read through the whole thing. She does become a bit repetitive, but it makes sense if you power through the entire book and then make your own notes of how to integrate the practices into your life. The stories about the patients she has treated through energy healing are inspiring as well. I use her “central channel” breath wor...
My intuition tells me this is snake oil. Reading it felt like an insult to my soul. Anyone can create a system to present as healing energy techniques. It's trying to convince people to believe it works. The author made enough money from people who are so hopeful to find something to help them. This book is hokey. It reads as such and thankfully I don't have to read it again.
The Energy Codes is an interesting blend of meditation, yoga, and energy work the author has designed to support clients with improving their energy, health, and lives. Most of the information won't be new to people already interested in energy work, manifesting, and the idea that your thoughts create your life. I enjoyed reading about specific exercises, such as the Morter March and mPower step (although I don't quite understand how they support the central nervous system). Readers will appreci...
I had a hard time with this book. I love books on alternative medicine and energy healing but this book just seemed weighty. I think the author could have done a lot differently. I really liked the part when she finally got to the energy codes but before that it was a bit tedious. I'm in the middle on this book as I loved the information but it was a bit hard to get through. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book free of charge. This is my hon...
I’m unable to give this book a rating. I started out listening on audible then switched to reading and became completely overwhelmed to the point of skimming and marking sections for future reading. The concepts are understandable but the execution of the practices are confusing and not intuitive for me at all. I’m not sure if this is a mental block on my side or poor descriptions on the part of the author...I suspect a bit of both. For now the book is tucked away with many sections marked and I...
In my line of work (?) I interact with many people who struggle day in, day out with hopelessness, trauma, despair, stress and diseases. Dr Sue Morter is well written, her approach, engaging while also whilst at the same time providing straightforward and powerful bodyworks. For those unfamiliar to energy medicine this book can serve as your initiation into health practices grounded in practical, accessible exercises, including yoga, breathwork and meditations. In the Energy Codes, Dr Sue offers...
