Ethan Williston has determined the direction of his life after returning from the fulfillment of his adolescent dream of exploring the unexplored Alaskan wilderness on dogsled. He wishes to become involved in an international career field, and, with a newly earned Master's degree from Harvard College, his alma mater, he is hired to teach at Egyptian University in Giza City, near Cairo, for the academic year 1916-17.
The world is still at war. This is a dangerous time in Egypt. The British army has declared martial law in the entire region.Upon his arrival in Cairo, Ethan is, inadvertently, thrust into a cauldron of political and military intrigue. He becomes involved in a clandestine activity well beyond the classroom.
This novella depicts both fictional characters and historic figures. The names of the main characters and sub-characters are fictitious. The named British military leaders and Arab leaders in the story line are real, historic figures. The venues described are historic. Care has been taken to develop the fictitious story line around the historic figures and the events of that period. The historic and military figures are placed, chronologically, where they were, and what they were doing at the time of the described events. Otherwise, the underlying plot, the narrative and the dialogue are fictitious.
Any similarity between real people and the fictitious characters depicted in the story line is purely coincidental.
