This book, written as seen through my eyes, those of a 15 year old on leaving school, recounts the hardships, difficulties and dangers faced in the smelting and the production of steel ingots. Not all however was toil as many of the lighter moments are also captured, pranks and horseplay inevitable when groups men work close together in an otherwise potentially lethal environment.
