The 3rd edition of IN DEFENSE OF CAPITALISM is an anthology on freedom co-authored by Drs. Richard M. Ebeling, Timothy G. Nash and Keith A. Pretty. It reflects a belief that it is part of America’s DNA to create, prosper and lead in commerce and volunteerism. IN DEFENSE OF CAPITALISM was written to provide an understanding of the positive role capitalism has played in the founding and history of this great nation and in the enhancement of human progress across the United States and around the world. Americans should never forget that the vast majority of jobs are created by a free and mostly ethical business community driven by customer needs and the profit motive. Americans must remember that businesses, along with employees, pay the taxes that make the funding of government possible, while charity and volunteerism exist at exceptional levels due to the blessing of a productive economy. IN DEFENSE OF CAPITALISM was written to celebrate the success of free people, to educate and to voice concern with the current state of the American economy and the understanding of capitalism in general. Today in country after country, leaders speak to their advocacy of freedom and free enterprise while increasing the influence of government over individual behavior. Rhetoric is a very powerful tool that must be followed by practice and doing. The great challenge before us is to educate so that knowledge drives action and action reflects sensible policy congruent with rhetoric…this will not be easy. IN DEFENSE OF CAPITALISM contains ideas that have helped humans prosper since before the birth of Christ and are especially relevant today. We believe that the ideas contained in IN DEFENSE OF CAPITALISM can help to bring to fruition a major expansion of human freedom and the restoration of the principles of individual liberty, low taxes, political and economic freedom, limited government, the rule of law, entrepreneurship, and ultimately the restoration of the American dream!
