A good couple of stories, actually it was better then I was expecting. To tell the truth I a getting a little bored of Rey's adventures in Jakku, so I really was not looking forward to another one. To my plesent surprise this is a good adventure. With a guest appearance from the "law" on Jakku. Rey takes up the gauntlet of scavenging a "haunted" wreck unearthed on the sand of Jakku by a great storm. A good story is not only showing Rey's skill and daring but also honour among the the residents o...
This volume alters the usual Star Wars Adventures format of several different stories in one book. This time the book has just two stories, and they're related. The first is about Rey locating and scavenging a fallen Star Destroyer on Jakku. The second is a flashback to the battle in which that Star Destroyer crashed. I like the pairing of the stories, both of which are lite fun, as the SW Adventures series almost always is.
Personal 2.5Technically 2Kinda lazy plot. Needs to focus more on Ren, he secondary plot is not that interesting.
Folks are judging this too harshly! It’s a fun story about a plucky protagonist, and the backup feature pays off nicely.
These Star Wars Adventures are usually silly fun, but Destroyer Down's narrative was too disjointed to be enjoyable. Essentially, Rey is in a race to find the best scrap from a newly discovered Star Destroyer that crash-landed in the dunes of Jakku. But there are also a bunch of competitors, a sheriff guy, Unkar Plutt yelling stuff, more droids than you'd expect, and some explosions. It moves too fast and everything is under-explained.The back-up story, featuring a rebel pilot taking down said S...
Short comic book story. It could be 3 minutes filler clip about an Imperial shipwreck in Jakku, where Rey and other people discovered in the dessert.
The generic story about looting the wrecked Star Destroyer, which shipwrecked on Jakku. Rey is generic scavenger. The story of the Spectral was boring and again generic characters. I feel cheated after reading it.
*3.75I really liked this one.Honestly, I feel like I'll never get sick of young Rey stories like this. They really fill in an interesting period in her life, and this book in particular shows a different side of her that I quite liked. Also, like in the first volume of this series, we get to see more of Rey's interactions with the other residents of Jakku. I really enjoyed those parts. This volume was just two stories - the one with Rey investigating a "haunted" ship, and a prequel to that one ab...
Long after the Battle of Jakku, a long-lost Star Destroyer appears out of the sand after being buried for years. Rey, scavenger that she is and a born survivor, aims to claim the best prizes from the ghost ship before someone else does, but she's definitely the only one with an eye on the prize. It is a race to get the best items from the ship. An old droid makes its presence known and its logs reveal the one responsible for bringing the destroyer down on Jakku. But another active Imperial droid...
I got this book in a Loot Crate, and was looking forward to more backstory on Rey. Unfortunately, in this volume, Rey's actual personality is gone. She's the plucky, generic, slightly skeptical heroine we've come to expect in every cartoon since Tiny Toon Adventures. This would be a great book for kids who like Star Wars. It's age appropriate and reasonably entertaining. For adults looking for more meat in the Star Wars universe, I'd try something else.
Clashes with the book "Lost Stars." Canon already clashing after just a few years? Didn't work for me. Too immature and simple a story.
Fun little story set on Jakku before The Force Awakens. Rey's voice doesn't quite sound right to me, but everyone else is spot on. Enjoyably cartoony art style as well.
I love Star Wars Adventures! It's the all-ages Star Wars comic book I wish I had growing up.When IDW announced this spin-off, I was thrilled. I haven't been reading the post-Jedi novels. So, unless I find info online, I know very little about what lead up to the Battle of Jakku. In this 3-issue miniseries, Rey and her fellow scavengers unlock the secrets of that climatic battle between Rebels and Imperial forces. When a sand storm uncovers the missing Star Destroyer, Spectral, it's a race to be t...
2,5/5 stars! This was a fun and quick read but it was nothing special or grand. It didn't reall add anything new to Rey's character or to the universe in general. But I still enjoyed my time reading this comic and I liked the art.
This book tells the story of Rey before the events that happened in The Force Awakens, and what happens when there is a competition to get into an old Star Destroyer.
That was actually not bad at all, considering my reservations about Star Wars Adventures in general. A much more substantial story, with great connections to The Force Awakens, some well-placed humor, and good characters.
Not much to see here to be honest, small in world building, and the paneling and dialog felt at times disjointed, art style is a mix bag for me, sometimes looking rather ugly to my taste. Not bad, just average and definitely nowhere near close as good as the more recent Marvel series.
Hands down, this is the best that I have read from Star Wars Adventures comics. I love that we hear about 2 timelines that are related as Rey discovers the remains of the Spectral, a Star Destroyer that went down over Jakku as well as the story of what brought it down. This was action packes and a great story. This really makes me ready to read Aftermath: Empire's End, which will be read hopefully before the year is out. So much fun!
This next volume is also a Rey-centric tale. This time Unkar Plutt wants the scavengers of Jakku to explore the "ghost-ship" of an Imperial Star Destroyer recently unearthed in a sand storm. It's still goofy cartoon artwork, simple storytelling with no real odds. But I liked the brief look at the battle of Jakku and how it actually is important to canon. It was another child-friendly adventure with Star Wars leading lady and how just nice she really is.
It's telling that the exclusive story written for actual fans is worlds better than the PC crap they push to the general public in the same series.
