This book explores the fascinating history of baseball in Latin America and the tremendous impact of Latinos on U.S. baseball. Baseball in Latin America has been intertwined with U.S. baseball since the advent of major-league baseball. But baseball's Color Line meant that only a handful of light-skinned Latinos were allowed in the game for more than sixty years. The arrival of baseball stars from Latin America in the 1960s, however, changed everything. Such immortal players as Clemente, Carew, and Marichal paved the way for other players like Concepcion, Tiant, and Valenzuela and today's young stars, including Alomar, Martinez, and Sosa.
