The Seal of Frog Island

The Seal of Frog Island

Marian Rumsey
0/5 ( ratings)
John ran to the baby seal and gently reached down to pat its furry head. Its little nose was running, and it looked up at him helplessly. Apparently it had lost its mother. But what could John do with it? Finally, he took the frightened baby in his arms and carried it home.
Albert the seal became an important fixture in the lighthouse home on Frog Island, and it was John who taught him to swim and fish. He was a playful pet. One of his pranks nearly burned up the house, even though it did keep a big ship from crashing on the rocks. However, Albert had to grow up, and the time came when the faint, distant barking of other seals gave his friendship with John its greatest test.
The atmosphere of the sea dominates this amusing but extremely moving story of a boy and his unusual pet. Marian Rumsey has realistically evoked the lonely feeling and the windswept bleakness of a rocky island world. E. Harper Johnson's pictures add the final salty touch.
