Choix des plus belles fleurs: Paris, 1827-1833

Choix des plus belles fleurs: Paris, 1827-1833

Pierre-Joseph Redouté
0/5 ( ratings)
1 CD-ROM runs on Windows, Mac OS, UNIX, and Linux platforms. Adobe Reader required, version 3.0 or later, version 6.0 recommended.

The Choix des plus belles fleurs is the masterpiece of Redouté's later years. This most celebrated of botanical artists served as drawing master to the queens and princesses of France for half a century. Among his pupils were Louise and Marie d'Orléans, to whom the Choix was dedicated. The great multivolume monographs of Redouté's middle period—the roses, the lilies, the succulent plants—were followed in his later years by elegant quarto albums featuring selections of the most beautiful or striking plants. This, the finest of these, features 144 superb stipple engravings depicting fruit as well as flowers, complemented by a retrospective preface by Redouté himself. This visually stunning Octavo Edition includes a complete English translation.

In French, with English translation and commentary by Sandra Raphael.
