I decided to take the '1,000 Books Before Kindergarten' challenge and this is #1. (I'm not going to Kindergarten so let's do a 2 year goal.)This was cute and imaginative plus it rhymes. There was a page where giants mounds of dirt represented the letter 'M' 4 times in a sentence and just the way it was done and the words involved it took me a minute to figure out. Would not be a good experience for a young reader or a parent trying to read to them.
Kids love this story about a dog who digs. The ingenious part is that some of the words include letters that Doug dug or is digging. This one gets better the more you read it and examine the pictures
China is not upside down.
Dis is best book. I dig 'cause I a digging dachshund. Is what we do. But I not dig like Doug digs. Doug digs to all dese different places. I just dig and stay home.
Doug is totally cute. I can see why the cover of this would suck someone in and get him to bring it home from the library. Unfortunately, Doug is also an a******. The story is stupid and gimmicky, but some of the pictures are fun.
Funny, adorable, with awesome illustrations with a very well made inclusion of the text into them.A must read book for children and adults alike!
Doug is a dog. Doug likes to dig.He really likes to dig. And dig. And dig.Doug has dug a lot of holes.Doug likes to dig.
Another winner from Wilson. Doug digs everywhere, makes a mess everywhere, and is still loved. He's curious, adventurous, as well as destructive. But what makes this book really awesome is that Matt Myers uses the letters of the text to illustrate the story in really cool ways. He does a rebus thing on a couple of pages, with mounds of dirt representing the letter M. The letter U becomes a bunch of Doug's holes, another one an exclamation mark, and horizontal tunnels are a part of a T and and E,
Boy, can Doug the Dog dig! The illustrations of Matt Myers bring the text by Karma Wilson to life! When mounds of dirt form the letter M on the page, students will love "decoding" the text! Geography tie-ins abound in this book that shows the main character digging under the sea, to Hollywood and Stonehenge, to Egypt and Mount Everest and more! Just pure fun!
From the Beehive Picture book long list. I read this to SS for a naptime book. Maybe in my distraction of needing to get back to the baby, but I didn't quite click with this one as much. Loved the pictures--so cute. On further inspection later there was much to be seen in them that the words didn't relate at all. Not sure if SS caught that in the read as much, but I think SD did in reading on her own. So good lap-read and read-alone, and would probably work for storytime as well. In a school-age...
I really enjoyed this picture book and I think my patrons will as well. Doug LOVES to dig and sometimes he digs way too deep and finds himself in some trouble. I love that some of the words are made out of Doug's tunnels, it adds something extra to the page. A great children's book I will be recommending ALL summer long.
I picked this up because my wife likes to read the occasional picture book. I'm a dog lover, and I found the cover irresistible. The art and story are both cute as Doug's digging becomes quickly wild and increasingly unlikely. I loved how the art and the text of the story melded in fun and interesting ways. There is no moral or anything here - Doug is just a good bad dog - but it is an enjoyable journey.
This book is so much fun not only in the text but the illustrations are great and take children on a tour through many famous places. This dog is very motivated to dig holes everywhere with this rhyming story he goes round the world. Colorful illustrations and great scenes added to the text that Karma Wilson wrote. I like this dog character as much as Bear in her previous books.
A colossal canine excavating extravaganza! -- Monty K.Doug is a digging machine...not literally, he's actually a dog, but boy, can he dig. Not only are the illustrations wonderful, but Doug's digging sometimes becomes part of the text, merging art with the words. It's a delightfully fun, rhyming romp underground and around the world, with a lovable canine that can't be stopped. -- Jen K.
A fresh look at the alphabet, with letters of text forming part of the story's illustrations. Kids can follow Doug's trail with their finger, learn directions, and hear some homophone word play.
I didn't really dig this one.
Very cute. A dog named doug likes to dig down deep. Where will he end up?
Doug is a dog who likes to dig. He might like it a bit too much. He might go a little crazy with his digging. And his digging might take him to weird and wonderful places.Readers just might have a zany and wild ride watching Doug dig. He out digs a prairie dog, finds treasure, gets in trouble with secret service at the White House, visits several different countries, and eventually gets scolded for digging too many holes in his own back yard. But his owners still love him. I like that the book i...
A story about a dog named Doug who digs and digs and digs. He ends up digging to different parts of the world. Too adorable and laugh out loud funny. My favorite is the ending!
Reminiscent of a book title from my daughters' childhood, The Digging Dog, Doug is a dog who likes to dig, alot. He ends up in all sorts of mischief due to his digging ways until he eventually digs all the way to, you guessed it, China! Being lost and disoriented is not to his liking. Will it cure Doug of all his digging? Time will tell. The play on words using "dug" and Doug, is good fun for readers.
