A Harmony of the Gospels in the Knox Translation

A Harmony of the Gospels in the Knox Translation

Leonard Johnston
0/5 ( ratings)
Long established as one of the best English translations, the usefulness of the Knox Bible is further enhanced by the publication of the gospel harmony.

The present renascence of Scripture studies in colleges and seminaries and the growing interest in the Word of God among the laity have made imperative a work such as this, which combines a reliable yet readable translation with the advantage to the reader of a harmony format.

By having simultaneously before him the texts of the gospels, printed in parallel columns, the reader can immediately compare the similarities and differences in the treatment given the same incident by the Evangelists. He can note too the "silence" of a given sacred writer on a given subject .

As a consequence, the reader can more conveniently -- and effectively -- come to know the gospels in the light of contemporary insights and techniques of scriptural studies such as the importance of literary forms, the principal audience for which an evangelist wrote, the faith of the early community to which the gospels attest.

Whether used for the study of the Scriptures or as a source for meditation on the Word of God, A Harmony of the Gospels will prove an irreplaceable instrument for anyone seriously concerned with coming to hear and understand the Word of God.
