Falwell and Bakker: The Journeys, The Scandals, The Redemption: A Tale of Two "Kings"

Falwell and Bakker: The Journeys, The Scandals, The Redemption: A Tale of Two "Kings"

Thomas A. Moore
3.5/5 ( ratings)
There were three prominent Kings of Israel in biblical times: Saul, David, and Solomon. Preachers today have some of the characteristics of one of these three leaders.
Saul was insecure, fearful and jealous. He overcompensated for his fears by being cruel, arrogant, proud, stubborn, and self-serving. He would just as soon kill his enemies than to show them any mercy. He responded to adversity with bitterness, rage and self-preservation.
Throughout most of his life, David had a tender heart full of passion toward God and compassion toward people. Nothing was more important to him than his relationship with God and his interactions with people. He would rather show mercy toward his enemies than to kill them. He responded to adversity with humility, love, and forgiveness!
Solomon was given supernatural wisdom by God, but nevertheless did not apply this wisdom until the latter years of his reign. His only goal in his early years was to pursue and experience all the pleasures that life could give him: wine, women, wealth, prestige, fame, and toys... lots of toys! His life was a mess, but he got back on course toward the end by pursuing his eternal God rather than life's temporary pleasures.
This book is a tale of three people-- two "kings" of Christian empires and a young observant "peasant"-- and how their lives converged during one of the most scandalous periods in modern church history.
The writer gives an inside view of the personalities and journeys of two very different TV Preachers -- two men who claimed to know and serve the same God -- but two men who differed in how they responded to Him in adversity and how they represented Him to the public.
