A vicious little read that will make you wish you won't encounter an empath - or be one.
If you liked Burton's Social Creature (one of 2018's best), you'll like "Children Will Listen." It's set in the same modern, stressful New York City as Social Creature and stars a similarly financially-strapped young woman in a psychological power struggle with a wealthy woman. What?Like some modern art, I just don't get it I tried, I finished it, trying to understand it but to no avail.
A short easy but disturbing read that is very well written as I thought it might be after reading Social Creatures to which in some ways it is very similar in its depiction of mostly unpleasant and/or feckless characters. Having said that I liked Maia and indeed felt sorry for her. Worth an hour of anyone's time.
