I remember hearing that there would be a movie sequel to The Dark Crystal released in 2007 or something like that. I was bummed out that it did not get made. I just wanted more onscreen Dark Crystal content. But in hindsight, the story wasn't really as interesting as it could have been. The Skeksis coming back feels like a rehash and a lack of creativity. There is a bit of new injected in the form of the Firelings. And there is this question of whether the Crystal should be cracked to benefit on...
Entertaining plot, great art.
This is just the first issue of what promises to be a very fun and very beautiful series. I do plan to wait for the volume to come out and then hopefully I'll continue this one :) 3*s
Great continuation.Really interesting and what a lovely art style. I am excited to keep reading. The world is really brought to life in this.
Very excited about this new series based on the classic tale. Makes me want to rewatch the Dark Crystal.
Ahh, childhood memories.
Oooo. I like the way this one begins. really want to see how this turns out, I was worried it might be too 'soft' but I should have suspected Spurrier would write some clever plots.
Have been waiting so long for the sequel to the movie and it's finally here!
Mini review: HUGE Dark Crystal fan. I have so many problems with this story. I'll write a full review when all 12 issues are out.
I got it and couldn’t wait to read it. I am a Jim Henson and Brian Froud junkie. So any approved continuing of such things with amazing artists and good authors;I will give a try. The author did a good job continuing the mood and pattern in the movie, to me. I have it memorized. I watched it so much growing up and into my adult life. I loved it. I can’t wait to read the next one. If you don’t know the movie or dark crystal really well, please don’t begin to judge it. You can’t. You would have to...
I was never a Dark Crystal fan, but I picked this up at BEA. Might as well give it a try. And I have to say it’s a good story. I’ve only seen the original movie once, if that, so I’m not really familiar with the story itself although I’m more familiar with some of the characters.I definitely liked the art here. Visually stunning and eye-catching. I think it told more of a story than the words themselves. Not that the story wasn’t good. It’s this little fire creature trying to save its kind by ob...
Interesting start. The protagonist seems promising but while the world is still endearing very little of the new setting feels as unique as the the film. Hopefully that will change.
Great fun!As a child I loved the Dark Crystal, as an adult it has remained one of my favorite movies of all time, I enjoyed reading this, because it was much like watching the movie, somewhat continued in a different setting, great new characters to get to know more about and a new world, I loved the illustrations and characters and creatures in the edges of the pages, lots to look at and have fun getting lost in! I will be on the look out for more to read!
The artwork is beautiful. We'll see how the plot progresses.
Has real potential. I'm waiting for the next volume on Hoopla.
While I have some qualms/issues with this, this is a decently strong opening for the maxi-series. And I'm always thrilled to revisit the world of the Dark Crystal!!
100 years has passed and it seems trouble is on its way as the crystal's power is fading. I look forward to the next issue. I shall give a review on our Thursday night YouTube stream. If you want to know more come check us out.
I remember reading this but I don't remember if I liked it or not.
I love everything related to The Dark Crystal! This takes place many years after the events of the movie, when a Fireling from below Thra needs a piece of the Crystal to save her people from extinction. This first issue is a promising start! The authors created something new--a new storyline with a different piece to the world--while still nodding to the artistic style of the original and writing something that feels as though it belongs in the storyline. Fantastic! I'll be frantically searching...
Having watched both the Netflix show and the film that it prequels I hunted out any books that were about the Dark Crystal. I stumbled across this comic book series and thought I would give it a go. Containing brilliant art and an interesting story help to further the Dark Crystal story into an interesting place and I have already read the second installment in this series and I am hoping to read the rest to see where this story leads.
