The Sexy Bits of Lady C

Brian Lewis
0/5 ( ratings)
Having read the first half of the first book of the ‘publishing wonder’ of 2010, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, 77 year old painter and author Brian Lewis decided that he could do better than E L James and set out write three novels which would explore literary themes, directed by an interest in an open minded attitude to sexuality. He believes that eroticism should not be driven by morbidity but by caprice and fun.

Set Birmingham in 1993 ‘The Sexy Bits Of Lady C’ tells the story of how and why some local government officers challenge the idea that the erotic passages in the third transcript in ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ were written, not by D H Lawrence, but by his wife Frieda. In support of this contentious idea there is a fresh look at the way the publication by Penguin Books of a popular edition in 1963. This followed a jury trial which radically altered the way we speak about sex and how we now describe sexual activity in a more open way.

Supporting the main themes are a close look at the development of West Midlands’ heritage industry, the complexity of dating via the New Statesman lonely hearts column, the ethics of Car Boot Sales, the pressures and advantages of self publishing, sexual activity on the Clent Hills, sexual contracts and escape words, how in-bed conversation between a senior local government and an exotic Wolverhampton Rovers enthusiast leads to the coupling of an elected member and the officer who runs Mobile Libraries.
