A Complete Summary of The Underground Railroad

The Underground Railroad is a novel written by prize-winning author Colson Whitehead about a young woman named Cora. The Underground Railroad is about the history of the African-American people and the troubles that they experienced.
The book tells the story of Cora, her grandmother Ajarry, and a young man named Caesar. We read about their lives as slaves in southern Georgia and how young Cora wants to escape and live as a free person. The main emphasis of the book is on the horror and difficulty of life for African-Americans who lived as slaves in the old American South. The author gives life to Cora and Caesar and shows how their strong will for life and for freedom gets them through their troubles.
Although the book is set in the nineteenth century, the problems which Whitehead touches on, such as racial segregation and racism in general, are very common even today. Because of that, it is no wonder that The Underground Railroad became a bestseller.
