Front Page Nevada: 53 memorable events in the words of the journalists who were there

Front Page Nevada: 53 memorable events in the words of the journalists who were there

Barry Smith
0/5 ( ratings)
The e-book is an outgrowth of a Nevada sesquicentennial project called ‘Before it was history, it was news,’ which reprinted front-page Nevada newspaper stories from more than 50 significant events in the state’s history. “These stories are the roughest draft of history, written by the reporters and editors who were on the scene at the time they happened,” said Barry Smith, executive director of the Nevada Press Association who compiled the stories.
They include the famed Austin sack of flour, the great escape from the Nevada State Prison in 1871, the building of Hoover Dam, the arrival of the Beatles in 1964 and dozens more, with plenty of photographs and links ito modern-day sources of information. “We created an e-book because we want students to have some fun with the stories, and to be able to connect with the vast resources available to them,” according to Smith. “It’s a history book like you’ve never seen before.”
