Where the first book primarily presents the characters and the early history of the Q-LITHIUM phenomenon, this book chronicles new adventures of the intrepid Q-LITHIUM team.
Surveys indicate a previously unknown source of Q-LITHIUM located two miles deep in the Puerto Rico Atlantic trench. The Q-Labs research ship, the Nantucket Explorer, discovers a “white smoker” emitting a very high purity version of the element. Before any action can be taken, the ship is disintegrated by an unknown weapon.
A new Q-Labs’ team leases a marine exploration vessel, the Thornton, from Woods Hole with an undersea vehicle to collect samples around the smoker. The U.S. Navy dispatches forces to the area to protect the Thornton.
During the collection of the samples, “crawler” tracks are noted around the smoker with holes dug in the Q-LITHIUM sludge where someone had been pirating the element. The Navy interdicts a small contingent of terrorists attempting to install a destructive device of some sort on the Thornton.
A mysterious destructive device is seized and sent to the Thorny Memorial Research Institute for analysis. The device is a new type of weapon made with Q-LITHIUM that literally disintegrates matter by disrupting the quantum level, mass-creating Higgs field. This discovery allows Thorny Memorial Research to develop a family of q-weapons that they dub “q-Distruptors”.
Gerald Peters was serving a surprisingly limited prison sentence for the kidnapping of Dr. Jill Cramer from a ski slope in the Lake Tahoe area. Peters was deep into the theft of Q-LITHIUM ore and technical data from the Thorny Institute and had Jill kidnapped to force Sean Henderson, her boss and lover, to reveal certain secrets relating to Q-LITHIUM.
From within prison, Peters forms Trench Mining Research Ltd in San Juan, Puerto Rico to explore the possibility of illegally mining valuable resources from the Puerto Rico Trench. During exploration of the Trench, the scientists discover the “white smoker” with its effluence of high-purity Q-LITHIUM.
Mike LaRosa, one of Peters former cronies, shows up as a visitor at prison. LaRosa offers to be Petersons' alter ego on the outside until Peterson is released from jail in about a year.
LaRosa is a shadowy figure on the international scene. He encourages the appropriate people in Cuba and Venezuela to cooperate and form a terrorist group financed by Iran but run by Cuban and Venezuelan Muslims. The result of this was the formation of Los Hermanos de la Revolución——The Brothers of the Revolution.
Sean Henderson and his gorgeous lover, Jill Cramer, make plans to visit San Juan to inspect the deep sea mining operation set up by Q-Labs. They are kidnapped by the LHR and forced to issue demands for a supply of Q-LITHIUM to be given to the LHR for weapons production. Retired Admiral Harcleave organizes a hostage rescue team of former SEAL’s and frees Sean and Jill after a daring rescue. The local LHR leader is captured and the Trench Mining facilities destroyed by q-Disruptors.
The LHR tries to destroy the Alvin deep sea submersible being used to film the mining operation. After a harrowing several hours with nail-biting attempts at rescue, the sub and its occupants are able to surface.
The appearance of an unexpected ally helps them locate and destroy the main LHR headquarters in Caracas. Sean and Jill save the vital Hoover Dam Colorado River Bridge from destruction.
Attempts are made to assassinate the Q-LITHIUM team by a splinter cell of the LHR. The unexpected ally helps in locating the cell. A plethora of other events rapidly ensue keeping the protagonists’ busy foiling one plot after another. New sources of Q-LITHIUM are discovered.
Q-LITHIUM is replete with human interaction, humor, romance, action and science.
