Excellent storytelling here. This underrated title just keeps moving right along with consistently strong art and intelligent writing. The creators have the courage to take these famous characters and place them in unfamiliar territory and as a result the book feels fresh and unpredictable.
This volume has more text than Anna Karenina and is almost as good. I jest. But it is good. There's not much going on in terms of plot; it's almost all character-based. Stuff with the Street Phantoms and baddie Darius Dun are there just to give our heroes feelings. And there are lots of feelings. Conflict about Foot Clan methods ignites between our boys and Master Splinter and it is uncomfortable and upsetting and right (Splinter continues to develop as an independent individual with his own mot...
The Street Phantoms make their move, but why doesn't Splinter seem concerned? Cracks appear in the Turtles' alliance as the war for New York heats up, and poor Harold finds himself face to face with a familiar face, and a particularly angry one as well.Chasing Phantoms takes place over the course of like two days in Turtle time, but the impact will be felt for a long time. The stresses that the Foot Clan are putting Splinter and the others under are obvious wherever you turn, and while there are...
Oh man, this was a heavy book. There has been an increasing cause for concern when it comes to Master Splinter's role as the new Master of the Foot Clan and things really come full circle in this book. With the Foot mapping out an all-out-war against the Street Phantoms with a convoluted plan that includes offering up Harold as bait. The ending is even more surprising than expected, and it feels like perhaps Shredder's hold on the Foot continues through Splinter (but this is only a theory).Endin...
It's been a minute since I picked up the previous volume but damn was it easy to fall back into this story. And the ending, made my chest ACHE. This series, for being about mutant turtles, really hits the feels. This is more of the family drama as Splinter takes over the Foot and his sons deal with those consequences the new position comes with. Absolutely engaging, excited to continue with this series once again.
Things with the Street Phantoms heat up when Harold gets kidnapped. Something doesn't seem right with Splinter as his tactics while leading The Foot get harsher and harsher leading to more changes at the end of this story. There's also a delightful Christmas issue included.
The IDW run of TMNT has been consistently one of the best modern day comic runs IMO. Great art and drama with the comedy you'd expect of everyone's favourite green skinned mutants.
(A-) 82% | Very GoodNotes: Baddies aren't appealing, bits and pieces stretch believing, even so, it’s still intriguing for the scheming it's revealing.
It is all about family. One the things that makes the Ninja Turtles series of comics work so well is this idea of family. The writing team for TMNT have consistently crafted an action pack tale but at it's core the story has always centered around family. It has been quite some time since I've read the world of one the world's most famous mutant teams. There has just been too many great books that have kept me away from the series. I got to say this series is by far one of the most well written
Splinter made some very interesting choices there. The last issue was very heartwarming. SPOILER ALERTpepperoni is back and life got better
Not the strongest volume but at the same time not with its charms (Harold's ex FTW) or shocks (view spoiler)[Seems Ninja Clan Leader Splinter is not above cold-blooded assassination. What is going on with him, I wonder? (hide spoiler)] and there's a goofy "Xmas Party Issue" that serves as a reunion for a lot of the entertaining sympathetic characters introduced over the preceding 15 volumes ((view spoiler)[no Neutrinos, thankfully (hide spoiler)]).It doesn't quite reach this level of quality, bu...

Chasing Phantoms deals with the motivations and morality of war. Constantly having to battle the Street Phantoms, the Turtles are becoming weary and wish for the fight to end. Splinter, seeing this, has Casey take over leadership of the Purple Dragon gang and join the Foot Clan in the war. Mikey is briefly brought back into the fold when Harold (their awesome helping tech guy) is abducted. When the Phantoms leader is killed after Splinter gives the assassination order, the Turtles decide that th...
