The Adventure of Life as a Mormon

The Adventure of Life as a Mormon

Vern Johnson
0/5 ( ratings)
Jesus Christ is the head of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , and while it operates under the guidance of a living prophet and apostles, the activities of Mormons at a community or family level are coordinated and served entirely by people like you and me who accept assignments to serve each other in one capacity or another. These are people who feel it is an honor to serve others, and who know that they will be blessed and grow as they do it. This book is about why we live as we do.
The author is an analytic person who loves life, but one who constantly asks himself what it is all about. After wrestling with questions like where did we come from, why are we here, and where are we going, he came to the conclusion that:
● We came to earth to learn, grow, and earn eternal life.
● The purpose of the Church is to help its members earn eternal life, provide access to salvation for those who died without the gospel, and to proclaim the gospel to its neighbors throughout the world.
● Personal knowledge, skills, and attitudes are needed to earn our way home.
● Specific family management skills are important to our success.
● Citizenship in the Church involves much more than attending meetings.
● Citizenship in the world requires us to reach out to others.
● It is important for each of us to look back over our own lives and determine our personal progress.
This book describes these conclusions from the perspective of an LDS church member who desires to understand how they fit into his life.
People drive their cars so as to maintain safety, speed, and convenience by agreeing to follow sets of traffic laws that are supported by signs, red/green lights, and even the design and maintenance of their cars. Once they understand these laws and agree to preform their driving in accordance with them, their freedoms and happiness are enhanced and protected. Driving under such a set of rules really does improve the adventure of living in a complex, challenging, demanding society. This book is based on the fact that it is important to understand and live by a set of principles that are based on Christ’s commandments, and that His commandments do not limit our freedoms and happiness, they enhance and protect them. Living in accordance with such principles really does improve the adventure of living in a complex, challenging, demanding society. More than that, they hold the promise of providing lives of joy and happiness for everyone.
This book was written like a textbook with each chapter describing a different aspect of the Mormon adventure. While the table of contents outlines why the chapters are ordered as they are, they can be read in any order without confusion.
If you are a member of the LDS church who is attempting to live according to the principles of the Gospel, you should read this book. It is about you. If you ever wondered why Mormons are happy productive people who are leaders in society, yet who are simple people who love their families and life in general, you should read this book. It will enlighten your interest in what they do and think, and it will provide a new perspective about yourself. Even if you are just curious about what Mormon people are like and how they live, you will find this book interesting.
Earlier it was mentioned that the Church operates under the guidance of a living prophet and apostles. To entice you to read this book, the author has chosen to follow the chapters of the book with an appendix that gives what he thinks is an interesting description of the prophets and apostles who now lead Christ’s church, and those who have done so throughout history.
