A group of needing life, needing excitement, so they could forget, banded against the world. Then as they traveled life's road, the world decided to strike as it provides an enemy in the wilderness. A cougar comes across their trail wishing to make them his next meal. Stabbing at the cougar repeatedly trying to subdue it, while missing the cat's lunging swipes at them. Maris's thrust with his spear and the others whacks at the cougar's head kept it at bay, but the cat's movements were quick and powerful, almost catching them twice. They could not run or move as the cat clawed at them, but move with their weapons they did, hard thrusts to keep the cat at bay, from death.
