Review first posted on Fantasy Literature.I've read two of the stories in this July 2016 SF online magazine so far, and strongly recommend the first one:4.5 stars for "Lion Walk" by Mary Rosenblum: Tahira Ghani is a manager and park ranger for a Pleistocene-era wild animal park in the U.S. prairie lands, near the Rockies. Using genetic manipulation and interbreeding programs with existing animal species, gene engineers are in the process of recreating many long-extinct animals, including giant s...
sehr durchmischt diesmal, knapp die Hälfte leider ungenießbar"Helio Music" by Mike Buckley *einfach nur: häh?"Fish Dance" by Eric Schwitzgebel *der Geist eines unheilbar Kranken soll als KI in zahllose Rosenkranz-Perlen transferiert werden; wohl zu lange am Weihrauchfass geschnüffelt!"The Sentry Branch Predictor Spec: A Fairy Tale" by John Chu *das kommt dabei raus, wenn Mikroprozessor-Architekten Geschichten schreiben; das Leben ist zu kurz, um so etwas zu lesen"Sephine and the Leviathan" by Ja...
It's not the worst Clarkesworld issue I read so far (issue 116 is by far) but it wasn't strong either, I am pretty disappointed with it because it started out well with Helio Music which was very unusual and interesting. Oh well, hopefully issue 119 will be better."Helio Music" by Mike Buckley, "Against the Stream" by A Que, "Lion Walk" by Mary Rosenblum were all 4*: All solid stories that really brought something new or in a innovative way. Against the Stream is probably my favorite story of th...
A noir murder-mystery set in a future where nanotech biotech is ubiquitous - but strictly regulated. The story does an excellent job of capturing the angsty tropes of the genre, while creating a scenario that depends on its imagined future - the sci-fi setting isn't just a veneer.
So far only read:-- Lion Walk (2009) by Mary Rosenblum, narrated by Kate Baker - 3.5*A very unique story. a novelette. hmmm, what to say...Our MC is a type of zoo keeper. The story has a dystopian environment and SF elements of the tech to keep track of where the animals are and their "readings", perimeter security, etc... The "zoo" is full of animals that are being recreated with DNA. (I think). Our keeper comes across (view spoiler)[ corpses of girls. Evidence shows they were both killed by li...

I disliked the first few original stories. "Sephine and the Leviathan", "Against the Stream", and the reprint of "Nahiku West" were good. "Lion Walk" ended up interesting in its second half, but needed more copyediting.
