This monograph is an attempt to put together recent Indian experience in Energy Efficient and Environment Friendly Building Technologies. The work at CST , Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, is the main source of inspiration for this work. It is intended to be used as a textbook for an Elective Course offered by the Visweswaraya Technological University to students of Civil Engineering. It is also hoped that it will interest practicing Architects and Civil Engineers. About The Author: K.S. Jagadish Graduated in Civil Engineering in 1961 from Mysore University and completed his doctorate in Structural Engineering from Indian Institute of Science in 1969. Has been on the Faculty of Indian Institute of Science since 1967 and retired as Professor of Civil Engineering in 2002. Has strong interest in Alternative Buildings, Earthquake Engineering and Rural Energy Systems. Currently Professor of Postgraduate studies at R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore. B.V. Venkatarama Reddy Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Currently working as Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science. Structural masonry, energy efficient alternative building materials and technologies, rammed-earth structures and recycling of solid wastes for building materials represent the broad areas of research interest. Has 66 publications, guided doctoral research programmes and consultant to several projects on alternative building technologies. Member of the technical committees of Bureau of Indian Standards.
