It was a fun, quick read.
sitterson excels at scaled-down "big fight" stories, and that's what this is: a big fight story. plot is secondary.
I felt like this book started with the first issue missing. The tournament is already starting. There's no explanation of why this tournament is happening or why both Street Fighter and G.I. Joe characters are there. There's zero plot here. It's just five issues of matchups with a nonsensical finale against Rufus. It's completely awful in every way.Received an advance copy from NetGalley and IDW in exchange for an honest review.
'Street Fighter X G.I. Joe' by Aubrey Sitterson and Emilio Laiso is a graphic novel version of a video game fight, and it's fun in it's own way.M. Bison and Destro seem to be running things on a secret island and the only way to defeat them will be for some of the G.I. Joe team and fighters from Street Fighter to compete in a series of fights. The fights start at eight fights and bracket down to one big fight, but who will emerge victorious. There are good guys and bad guys fighting on each team,...
This "story" is everything you could imagine it would be. Almost no narrative and lots of fighting/action. I enjoyed the video game like structure. A fun quick read for fans of either franchise. It was good to see some childhood favorites duke it out (though Duke was missing).
Nobody should go into this book expecting a nuanced critique of the war against terrorist organizations Cobra and Shadaloo. It's a ridiculous premise encapsulated by the title and you're here for the hand to hand fighting, so switch off your brain going in and you'll have a better time.Fans of one franchise or the other may quibble with the roster choices, but it's silly mayhem through and through. Barely enough twists to explain why the obvious characters didn't win and perhaps an issue too lon...
Okay, far from a classic, but it was fun to read. A Comixology Unlimited selection. Heroes and villains from both sets of characters. Enjoyed reading this title. Meet several new ones and enjoyed reading the older ones as well.
Nice artwork but not entertaining
For Joe & Street Fighter fans!!If you're a fan of both GI JOE and Street Fighter, it's a fun story, great art, and just nice to see such an interesting mix of charters interacting.
The story was eh... it felt like there was more such as #0 it felt like you were lost as to why the Joes were teaming with the street fighter characters. It was awesome to see Snake Eyes in this though. Too bad they made him throw the fight. It was lacking in a clear voice, but the art... the art and detail was beautifully drawn. The colors popped.
2.5 StarsThis was just way too literal of a crossover. By that, I mean the entire series was setup like a Street Fighter Video Game with a GI Joe Character fighting a Street Fighter Character. I thought this would be a more cohesive story using the SF characters in a storyline. Instead its just fight after fight. There's a very loose plot tying everything together but it's not enough to overcome the silly fights. The Street Fighter characters have some cool backstories, so I was hoping to see th...
Such wasted potential. The story was nonsensical. You may be thinking, "Who cares about the story? It's just some silly pretext to get the characters together." I'd give you that, if the fights were great. But they were not. Short fights with some poor character choices from Street Fighter. This could have been so much better.
Aubrey Sitterson plays with action figures.
I admit I'm not the biggest G.I Joe fan, or Street Fighter fan for that matter. But this seemed like a wacky and dare I say unnecessary crossover. The story seemed pretty weak. Overall: I wasn't impressed.I received an advanced copy of this from NetGalley.com and the publisher
I guess my expectations were too high for this book. But to be honest, they weren't that high. There wasn't much of a story here (to be expected) - it really didn't make much sense. Like, even compared to those 80s JCVD movies like Bloodsport and Kickboxer. But I was hoping there would me more variety of the well-known Street Fighter characters. Ok, who am I kidding. I just wanted to see Blanka kick some butt. But he barely appeared. They did attempt a cool way to present the Street Fighter 2 vi...
If you prefer watching other people play STREET FIGHTER as opposed to playing it yourself, you might enjoy this "story." There's basically no plot here, and no particular reason for G.I. JOE to be involved. All we get is a bunch of one-on-one battles in which the coolest characters lose and the lamest characters win. Capping off the festivities is a plot twist that will keep you groaning for minutes on end.
This book was ok. It is a book for the fans and not for story elements. I hope they make another one.
I enjoyed this, it was fun and had a few twists along the way.
Cobra's Baroness, Destro, and Storm Shadow along with a rash of G.I.Joes, and assorted others are involved in a series of personal combats in the fashion of the video game Street Fighter, all for the pleasure of M. Bison and the powering of his prototype psycho power suit. Of course, things do not go according to anyone's plan, but the suit gets destroyed, Bison is betrayed, and the Cobra-Joe conflict continues.
Most of this is a series of short and not particularly memorable fights between characters from each franchise, with a thin plot tying things together. It would have worked fine as an actual video game, but as a comic it comes off as cheesy and kind of shallow. But, I was surprised a few times (especially with the final big bad), and I was never bored, so that's something. (B-)
