This is a really good book for ALL mothers and mothers to be plus anybody thinking about becoming a mom! It really does help make Mom feel "human", and the word "guilt" is really lessened off our minds.
Mother's Need Time-Outs, Too is a book that literally changed my life. I was a stay-at-home mother of two boys, who felt lost in between being a mother, wife and a woman. This book made me realize that I had to find my way back to me, and in order to do so, I had to rediscover my passions. Thanks to the authors of Mother's Need Time-Outs too I have rediscovered my passion for writing and photography, and I even managed to write three unpublished novels.
I liked this book a lot. I randomly found it at the book store when I was having a bad week with the boys. It helped give me some much-needed perspective.
I don't think I got 100 pages into this one. As much as I enjoy the reinforcement that all parents are just winging it, I was forcibly dragging myself to pick this one up each night.
I liked this book. They talked about a lot of the problems I've been experiencing, and how I can address them. Most notably, they discuss the idea that we believe "we can have it all" if we only work hard enough, but we *can't,* and it's better to take care of ourselves, so that we can be the best person/mother/wife we can be.
This book has some pretty good ideas about getting back to yourself. The majority are geared towards mothers with older children, not infants. While there are a few suggestions I wouldn't mind trying now, the rest is going to have to wait until my boys is a little older.
I also want touch on ways to take a time out. No you do not have to go and sit in the corner. I use to love my 3 pm bubble baths. It was perfect timing. I would slip into the tub with a good book and music and soak for 30 minutes. Then when I popped out, dry and dressed I was ready for anything. That was just when the kids came in from school. A time out really helps an overworked overwrought woman get refocused. And yes if your a mom, wife and caretaker your overworked daily. When you take time...
More suited to an American audience I think (I am Australian). Mostly common sense type tips, nothing new in here for me personally.
Another great read by Schumann, et al..
I love these books, even if it is just for that feeling that it is not just me. This one did have some good tips for different things, like how to give yourself some time (some of them would require too much spouse help, and frankly, if I was getting that I wouldn't need the time-outs so desperately:) I did like that it was written by 3 different women to get different perspectives and they did lots of group sessions with different Moms around the country for tips and things that worked for them...
I read this book for a paper I had to write. Did not like it at all.
