Isms and Ologies: A Guide to Unorthodox and non-Christian Beliefs

Isms and Ologies: A Guide to Unorthodox and non-Christian Beliefs

Arnold Kellett
0/5 ( ratings)
“Isms and Ologies” is a guide to unorthodox and non-Christian beliefs. It has been written to help ordinary Christians who are puzzled by, or curious about, the bewildering variety of sects, cults, philosophies and religions which flourish today. The subjects dealt with are Atheism, Agnosticism, Existentialism, Pantheism, Astrology, Christadelphianism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, British-Israel, Swedenborgianism, Spiritualism, Christian Science, Theosophy, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam – and many others of less importance which are briefly dealt with in an appendix. The author was a Methodist layman, but he wrote in defense of the common heritage of all Christian denominations. His purpose was not merely to inform but also to point out where each of these alien systems of belief denies or or distorts the basic teaching of the New Testament of Christianity. He therefore gives a concise account of the origin and history of each philosophy or religion, an outline of its main features, and finally discusses it from the Christian point of view. This book is written in a clear, non-technical style and provides stimulating reading for Christians with inquiring minds. It will be especially useful for students, Sixth Formers and discussion groups. There is an introduction, conclusion and a list of suggestions for further reading. This is the original book entitled “Isms and Ologies”. Do not be misled by other books with the same title but by different authors. Since the publication of this book, several other authors have copied this title and the ideas it contains. They have published other books with the same title. None of those other books have equaled the original “Isms and Ologies”, this book, first published in 1965.
