FLORIDA WINERIES is a guide book that introduces you to 19 certified Florida wineries, some with vineyards. Many people are surprised to learn that Florida has so many wineries. Only a few of them make citrus wine; most make wine from various varieties of grapes or blueberries. Each of the wineries has been visited by the author, and in his reviews he includes photographs and tells you what to expect. He chose to review only certified wineries because to become certified by the State of Florida, a winery has to publish the days and times they are open so that visitors can plan accordingly.
The book is organized into the 8 geographic regions of Florida. These wineries make excellent affordable day trips, and usually have gift shops and areas for wine tasting. Many of them provide guided tours of their operations. Quite often they are in or near small towns in off the beaten path locations in the several regions of Florida. Most are rural and in areas that are still authentic Old Florida.
There are a total of 27 certified wineries in Florida and probably at least that many that are not certified. The book lists all of the wineries – certified or not - so you can do your own research and learn more about them. Each of the 19 reviews in this book includes a link to the winery website and a location map. This book will show you how to soak up some Florida culture and tasty wine while rescuing you from interstate monotony and the horrendous admission fees of the big tourist attractions.
The book is organized around Florida’s 8 geographic regions, and is written by Mike Miller, a Florida resident since 1960. Mike is a graduate civil engineer from the University of Florida and has traveled all over the state on both business and pleasure. He writes for and publishes his own website, Florida-Backroads-Travel.com. Much of the material from this guide is from the website.
