After lonely shoe salesman Francis Farrington mistakenly eats shoe desiccant, he awakens in the presence of Josiah, an alcoholic wizard who reveals to him his true identity as James Love the Destroyer. Donning a jet-black tuxedo, Francis sets out to assist Josiah in destroying the Quaxxia, a race of evil extraterrestrial bankers. His first mission: to appease God, who’s living on Earth as a middle-aged software engineer named Jeff, by bringing him a Quaxxian-crafted necklace that’s presently in the possession of a local prostitute. As their fool’s errand takes the not-so-dynamic duo on a hilariously ridiculous tour of late-night diners, sprawling box stores, and neon shopping malls, they gain friends such as rabid Philadelphia Eagles fan Urlok and an angry little person named Mortimer…and they also rack up a few foes along the way, including a pimp and a clairvoyant reality-show magnate. From one cockeyed scheme to the next, the team of bumbling misfits uncovers the absurdities of modern America in an uproarious work of dark comedy inspired by great satirists ranging from Kurt Vonnegut to Chuck Palahniuk.
