Oh, Otis. What a guy! This is a heartwarming story about being brave and taking care of the people you love.
I didn't notice when I checked this book out that on the cover, one of the kittens is in an upside down fireman's hat. It is December 2018 as I write this, and I live in Northern California. Recently a terrible fire took the lives of many people and wipedan entire town off the map. This book, about a tractor that saves a cat and her kittens from a burning barn, and then becomes trapped before being rescued himself was probably not the best choice to read so soon after such a horrible, horrible f...
You know, it’s a sweet story about a hero tractor who saves kittens from a fire, but I can’t get past the holes in the story. (Putting aside the idea of a tractor who is alive) If the barn was full of hay and burning like this to the point that the floor collapsed, the pulley rafter would have been gone and no one could have put a tractor down on the remaining floor let alone run around to loop rope onto Otis and form a line to pull him out.
Man, I dunno....a talking tractor is one thing, but animals that can pull said talking tractor out of a burning barn using a support beam of the barn that on the verge of burning down--now that's a bit too much suspension of disbelief for this reader!
Otis is adorable and has fun friends. In this adventure, much drama will have readers on the edge of their seats. However, I'm not in favor of readers seeing the animals going back into a burning building - no matter how caring they are. I think this is a mixed message!
My boys got a copy from Dolly Partons Imagination Library (free books delivered to your home monthly until the age of 5). This is actually one of my kids favorites.Otis & the Kittens is about a tractor named Otis saving kittens from a barn fire & being saved in turn by all of his barnyard friends.
Otis a popular tractor on the local farm, though the drought facing everyone has the animals a little worried. When Otis notices an odd going on outside of the barn filled with hay, he goes to explore, only to realise that there is a fire... and a handful of kittens are stuck inside. Otis does all he can to save them, but an issue befalls him and the pendulum of panic swings towards him. Will Otis make it out in one piece? The animals have a plan! Neo loves all things fire department related and...
I was so worried about Otis and the kittens ... The story is heart warming story which made my heart warm
Otis the tractor and his farmyard friends return in this sixth and thus far latest picture-book devoted to their adventures. Resting under the shade of a tree one hot, dry day, Otis is surprised to see a cat down in the cornfields, running toward the barn. Then he sees smoke coming from the barn, and realizes that there is a fire. Following the cat into the inferno, he saves her trapped kittens, only to become trapped himself. Can the animals, together with Fire Chief Douglas' help, get him out
Another great book in the Otis series! Love that lil' tractor. Loved the homage to the brave firefighters that risk their lives when going into burning structures to save our loved ones and neighbors.
When I saw 'Otis and the Kittens' on Book Outlet I had to pick it up.'The Otis' series features vibrant illustrations by Loren Long. Part of the magic of the 'Otis and the Kittens' is discovering all the fine details of the story displayed in the illustrations.'Otis and the Kittens' features the important themes of safety, family, cooperation, and friendship. My son especially enjoyed the interactions between Otis, the kittens, and the firemen.'Otis and the Kittens' offers a feel good story with...
I loved the kittens. I enjoyed reading about the bull who liked tug of war. He liked to play rough and so do I. Otis is very kind, because he saved the kittens. It was scary when Otis became trapped. Otis has great friends because they helped him escape the fiery death pit in the barn.
Do not read at bedtime! Great story, great pictures and lots of heart, as per typical Otis. But. This one’s NOT relaxing ! And forget about not finishing it once you’ve started or even taking a pause. He was glued, wide eyes and desperate to know what happened. Welll…. Of course it all turns out right, but, not until the next to last page, and there’s hardly any time at the end to feel good. Could’ve used one more page of yay everything’s fine, and we’re all one big happy family to help transiti...
This books has the best pictures. The illustrations make me laugh, especially with the kittens having huge eyes and big heads. I work at a library and saw this book as I was checking in books. The cover made me stop and read through the story. It is so cute and the story will appeal to many children. Otis is a tractor on a farm who ends up saving the cat family from a horrible barn fire. The farm animals repay him by saving him when he needs it. It is a very uplifting story and perfect for teach...
Otis the whatever-he-is saves kittens from a burning barn, but ends up trapped. Who knew barns had basements? How will he escape imminent immolation?I worry (because I am who I am) that kids will take this as inspiration to run into burning buildings to rescue their pets - or someone else's pets. At least in Hero Cat the mom nearly gets roasted - as a warning to anyone else who might try this. Don't try this at home! You aren't fictional!
A terrific addition to this series! It's about the importance of firefighters! Loved it!
As a family we're big fans of the Otis books. The illustrations are gorgeous and the characters are nothing short of lovable. As a parent, I had to make an exception for this book though. The plot has Otis rescuing some kittens, which is all well and good, but 3 separate times in the story it has various characters deliberately entering a burning barn. Yes, the characters' goal is to help, but this is the exact opposite message I want my kids to learn about fire safety. Older children who alread...
My kids and I love the Otis books and couldn't wait to read this one when we borrowed it from the library. Imagine my disappointment when I realized the terrible message this gives children. Otis enters a burning barn multiple times to rescue a littler of kittens. When Otis gets trapped his animals friends all enter the burning barn to help him. I had to explain to my children to never enter a burning building no matter who or what is still inside! I told them that firefighter s are the only one...
Wonderful story for the pre-school set about a farm tractor named Otis who loves to play with his friends. When a barn is burning, Otis rushes inside to save a family of kittens. However, he is entrapped. Who will save him?My grandsons loved the book when I read it to them. (they also told me about the other Otis stories.) It was a book one of them received from the Dolly Parton group that gives books to children who are pre-school age. I find this a fabulous philanthropy for promoting literacy....
We love Otis the tractor! In this adventure, he shows that being brave is most rewarding when you have good friends looking out for you too. This Otis book was more text heavy than the others. My 2 year old struggles sitting through it but he loves the pictures. We bought it as a board book and I think it would function better as a regular hardcover book. All in all, any child would enjoy this. Recommended for 2 and up.
